Friedrich Juergenson

Friedrich Jürgenson (born February 8, 1903 in Odessa , † October 15, 1987 in Höör , Schonen , Sweden ) was an Estonian painter , opera singer and documentary filmmaker of Danish- Swedish descent. He was a pioneer of transcommunication research and is considered to be the discoverer of the electronic voice phenomenon (EVP).

Life

Jürgenson was the son of a doctor practicing in Odessa of Danish descent and a Swedish mother. The parents came to the Black Sea from what is now Estonia . After the First World War and the February Revolution in 1917 , Jürgenson studied painting at the Odessa Art Academy and singing and music at the Odessa Conservatory .

In 1925 the family returned to Estonia, where Jürgenson initially continued his painting and singing studies, but then moved to Berlin to continue his studies . In 1932, Jürgenson moved to Palestine . He stayed there for six years, continued his studies, but at the same time started a very successful career as a painter and opera singer in Palestine.

In 1938 Jürgenson left Palestine and went to Milan , where he continued his education and performed as a singer. When he visited his parents in 1943, he fell ill and the damp, cold weather damaged his voice, which is why he gave up his professional career as a singer and concentrated only on painting. He drew naturalistic, preferring portraits , landscapes and still lifes . Because of the Second World War he went to neutral Sweden, lived in Stockholm , where he also married his wife Monica and received Swedish citizenship .

In Sweden, the multilingual talented Jürgenson learned Swedish as his tenth language. During the following years he portrayed wealthy Swedes and painted Stockholm landscapes. In 1949 he sketched the excavations in Pompeii , with these pictures even convinced the Holy See of his talent and received the offer to document the archaeological excavations near Vatican City . In the following year he therefore returned to Rome , but after four months he got pneumonia while painting in the damp excavation caves . The Vatican doctors cured him. When Pope Pius XII. Seeing Juergenson's work, he asked Juergenson to portray him . In the end he even painted four portraits of the Pope, who was interested in EPP research and at the time was informed about Juergenson's work. From now on he was given "free rein" in Pompeii and returned there several times to paint.

In 1957, Jürgenson bought a tape recorder to record his singing, perceiving strange spherical noises and telepathic messages that he attributed to his artistic sensitivity. The following year he went to his first major art exhibition in Pompeii, but continued his telepathic experiments after his return to Stockholm. “I didn't hear a voice, sound, or whisper. It was completely silent. ” He later reported that in the spring of 1959 he had “ received the message from a central monitoring station in space ” from which humanity was being observed. He tried to record these messages on tape.

In the following years, Jürgenson continued his experiments with the tape documentation of spherical voices (Electronic Voice Phenomenon, EVP). While he initially believed in voices from space, he was later certain that he could hear the voices of the deceased "from the other side" . A certain experience, he later reported, then completely changed his life: while listening to recorded bird calls, he heard the voice of his deceased mother on tape, who called him by his nickname: “Friedel, can you hear me? Here's Mommy. "

In 1964, Jürgenson, who meanwhile lived in Mölnbo south of Stockholm, published his book Rösterna Från Rymden (Saxon & Lindström Förlag, Stockholm, 1964) and gave his first and much-acclaimed press conference. International research societies and scientists for paranormal things showed great interest in his research, including Friedbert Karger from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching near Munich , Hans Bender from the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg , US societies for parapsychology and individuals like Konstantin Raudive or the married couple Claude and Ellen Thorlin, who visited him in Sweden and also started EPP research.

Jügenson continued his experiments by reviewing the tape that was running, but leaving pauses to allow inaudible answers at first. While listening to the tape, he heard voices in different languages ​​such as Swedish, German, Russian, English or Italian - all languages ​​that he spoke himself. In the spring of 1960 a voice asked him to use the radio as a medium. He used this method until his death: He connected a microphone, tape recorder and radio and believed that he was having “real-time conversation” with his “friends”. After several experiments, he fixed the receiving frequency between 1445 and 1500 kilohertz . The frequency 1485 kHz is therefore now called the “Jürgenson frequency”.

In 1965, Jürgenson took up painting again, but tape recordings remained his main activity. At the same time he went to Pompeii again. In 1966, Swedish television financed the documentary Pompeii - a cultural relic that must be preserved . In 1967 the Hermann Bauer Verlag in Freiburg im Breisgau published the book Radiotelephone with Deceased on Jürgenson's EPP research and in 1968 four documentaries were produced: The Temples at Paestum and the City of Temples and Graves , Death of Birds in Italy , The Miracle of the Blood of St Gennaro and a film about his own archaeological work in Pompeii. In 1968 his book Radio och microphone contact med de Döda (Nybloms Förlag, Uppsala) was published, which was only published in 1981 under the title Radiotelephone with deceased in Germany.

In 1969, through the mediation of Archbishop Bruno Bernhard Heim , Jürgenson was awarded the Commander-in-Chief of the Order of Gregory for his documentary The Fisherman from Gallilea - On the Grave and Stool of Peter , which was given to him personally by Pope Paul VI. was presented even though Jürgenson did not belong to any religious community at the time. Soon afterwards he made a film about the life of this Pope and received the papal commission to paint three pictures of this, his second, Pope. During this time, Juergenson also got permission to do his own excavations in Pompeii and discovered the governor's palace of Pompeii.

In the 1970s, too, Jürgenson continued his painting and tape recordings. He moved from Mölnbo to Höör in the southern Swedish province of Schonen (Skåne). Due to his age, he stayed at home most of the time, and only rarely went on trips to Italy, where he had talks about founding an EPP research institute. In 1978 he gave his third press conference and gave many lectures. Back then, he predicted that humanity would soon be able to receive messages on television. He named his work "Audioscopic Research". The German version ( radio with deceased ) of his book Radio och Microphone Contact med de Döda was translated into Dutch, Italian and Portuguese in the early 1980s. In 1985 he gave his last press conference, which was also televised nationwide. When he died in October 1987, Jürgenson left several hundred tapes behind.

The Swedish installation artist Carl Michael von Hausswolff founded the Friedrich Jürgenson Foundation in connection with an exhibition in 2000 , of which he is the chairman and which is based in the Färgfabriken Stockholm cultural center .
