Friedrich Karmann

Friedrich Karmann (born July 31, 1885 in Hirschberg , † September 15, 1939 in Berlin-Steglitz ) was a German officer , most recently general of the infantry and head of the Army Administration Office.

Life

On February 27, 1904, Karmann joined the infantry regiment "Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm" (3rd Badisches) No. 111 in Rastatt as an ensign . There he was promoted to lieutenant on January 27, 1905 and on September 15, 1906, he was transferred to the neighboring fusilier regiment "Prince Karl-Anton von Hohenzollern" (Hohenzollernsches) No. 40 . From October 1, 1909 to June 21, 1912, Karmann graduated from the War Academy in Berlin , where he was promoted to lieutenant on June 16, 1912 . As such, he was assigned to the General Staff from April 1, 1913 .

With the outbreak of World War I , Karmann was transferred to the General Staff of the I. Army Corps and on November 8, 1914, he was promoted to captain . In March 1917, Karmann was appointed First General Staff Officer of the 3rd Reserve Division . He held this position until the end of the war.

Karmann was then taken over into the Reichswehr and assigned to the staff of Group Command II in Kassel . From October 1, 1921, he was head of the 8th (MG) company in the 14th (Baden) Infantry Regiment for two years . Subsequently, he was transferred as a consultant to the Organization Department (T 2) in the Defense Ministry , where he was promoted to the January 25, 1924 Major received. As such, Karmann was from October 1, 1927 to January 31, 1928 a consultant in the military office and was then commander of the 1st battalion of the 21st (Bavarian) Infantry Regiment in Würzburg . As a lieutenant colonel (since February 1, 1929), Karmann returned to the Reichswehr Ministry on March 1, 1931. He was employed as a consultant in the League of Nations Division Heer Group (VGH) and promoted to colonel on February 1, 1932 . After almost two years he was head of department and from March 1, 1934 head of the Army Administration Office (VA). In this function he was to be promoted to major general on October 1, 1934 , to lieutenant general on October 1, 1936 and finally to general of the infantry on April 1, 1939.

Shortly after the start of the Second World War, Karmann died at his post.
