Friedrich Paul von Zimmermann (born October 12, 1777 in Rehnsdorf ; † July 23, 1839 in Schweidnitz ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the Schweidnitz fortress .

Life

origin

His parents were Karl Paul von Zimmermann (1735-1819) and his wife Johanna Edmuthe Charlotte, née Hermann (1748-1807). His father was the heir of Rehnsdorf, Obergersdorf and Dahrigau and received the Saxon nobility on November 1, 1793 in Vienna .

Military career

Zimmermann entered on April 14, 1792 as a cadet in the infantry regiment "Niesemeuschel" of the Saxon Army . During the First Coalition War he fought against France in 1795/96 and was promoted to ensign on September 29, 1796 .

After the war, Zimmermann became a sub-lieutenant on August 21, 1802 and as such took part in the Fourth Coalition War in 1806 . He fought in the battle of Jena and the sieges of Neisse and Glatz . On July 26, 1809, he became lieutenant prime minister and adjutant . In the Fifth Coalition War , Zimmermann took part in the Battle of Wagram and received the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Henry on March 17, 1810 . During the campaign of 1812 he fought in the battle of Kolnin. In 1813 he was promoted to captain . After Napoleon's defeat at Leipzig , Saxony also switched sides. Zimmermann was promoted to major on March 26, 1814 . In the battle at Courtray he was wounded and received the Order of Saint Anne III. Class. Later he fought in the cannonade at Rodemacher.

On April 2, 1815, Zimmermann switched to Prussian service and, as a major, was given the post of commander of the 6th Silesian Landwehr Infantry Regiment. On March 12, 1820 he was appointed commander of the 6th Landwehr Regiment. With a patent from June 20, 1825, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 18, 1825 and was awarded the service cross . On March 30, 1831 he was promoted to colonel and on the occasion of the festival on January 18, 1832 with the Red Eagle Order III. Class excellent. On September 9, 1835, Zimmermann was awarded the Red Eagle Order III. Class and on September 30, 1835 the Order of St. Anne II. Class. On March 30, 1836 he was transferred to Schweidnitz as commandant. In this capacity Zimmermann received the character of major general on March 30, 1838 and was promoted to this rank on June 11, 1839 with a patent from March 30, 1838. But he died on July 23, 1839 in Schweidnitz.

Zimmermann married Charlotte Christiane Amalie Giese (1785-1859) in Görlitz on December 26, 1803 . The couple had several children:
