Paul Friedrich von Zimmermann
Paul Friedrich von Zimmermann (born October 24, 1814 in Dresden , † June 15, 1875 in Schweidnitz ) was a Prussian major general .
Life
origin
He was the son of the later Prussian major general Friedrich Paul von Zimmermann (1777-1839) and his wife Charlotte Christiane Amalie, née Giese (1785-1859). The later major general Robert von Zimmermann (1817–1878) was his younger brother.
Military career
Zimmermann visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . He was then transferred on August 18, 1832 as a Second Lieutenant in the Guard Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army . For further training, Zimmermann was commanded at the United Artillery and Engineering School until 1833 . As a prime lieutenant he took part in the suppression of street fighting in Berlin in 1848 and was assigned to the fortress reserve artillery in Mainz in April 1849 . In the following months Zimmermann was involved in the siege of the Rastatt fortress during the suppression of the Baden Revolution and in the battle near Kolding during the campaign against Denmark . In mid-September 1849 he returned to his brigade and was promoted to captain on October 29, 1850 . From July 2, 1857 to June 28, 1859 Zimmermann acted as an artillery officer from the square in Schweidnitz, became a major on September 18, 1858 and then rose to the status of a regular staff officer in the Guard Artillery Regiment. On November 5, 1859, he was appointed commander of the III. Department and in this capacity Zimmermann received the Commander's Cross of the Albrecht Order on October 21, 1860 . After his promotion to lieutenant colonel , Zimmermann was assigned the command of the East Prussian Fortress Artillery Regiment No. 1 in Königsberg on June 25, 1864 .
During the German War , Zimmermann led the artillery of the I. Reserve Army Corps in 1866, advanced to colonel on June 8, 1866 and, after the peace treaty, became the commander of Magdeburg Field Artillery Regiment No. 4 . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was appointed commander of the 10th Artillery Brigade at the 2nd Artillery Inspection on January 14, 1868 . In this capacity Zimmermann received the Order of the Red Eagle III on June 22, 1868 . with ribbons.
With the beginning of the war against France he was given command of the 7th Artillery Brigade and Zimmermann was promoted to major general on July 26, 1870. He took part in the Battle of Gravelotte , the Siege of Metz and the Jura campaign and received both classes of the Iron Cross and the Honor Cross 1st Class of the Lippe House Order in recognition of his achievements . Due to illness, Zimmermann had to say goodbye after the end of the war and was put up for disposal on September 21, 1871 with the statutory pension .
family
Zimmermann had married Luise Helene Clara von Studnitz (1832-1906) on January 10, 1853 in Berlin . She was the daughter of the city court director Hermann von Studnitz from Breslau .
