History, inhabitants, townscape

Friedrich (s) stein was first mentioned in 1777, when it was laid out under Landgrave Friedrich II as a colony for 10 families, the number of which was soon reduced. The hamlet was still called Friedrichsstein around 1900 ; In 1956 he was named in the Friedrichstein municipal register . In 1779 he had 9 households and in 1895 8 people lived there.

The hamlet consists of only a few houses, including the Bergcafe Friedrichstein .

Parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Dörnberg, Immelburg and Helfenstein (FFH no. 4622-303; 4.107  km² ) stretch north over east to south around Friedrichstein, and in the north beyond Heilerbach there are parts of the Dörnberg nature reserve ( CDDA no . 81531; declared 1978; 1.1656 km² in size).

Traffic and walking

Friedrichstein can be reached via a narrow cul-de-sac. It branches off from the state road  3211 running between Zierenberg and the Habichtswald district of Dörnberg and leads steeply upwards past the hamlet of Heilerbach to Friedrichstein. There is a connection to the south-west to the nearby Zierenberg junction of the federal motorway 44 via federal road 251 , which connects to this state road in Dörnberg - driving through the Habichtswald district of Ehlen ; in the opposite direction, the B 251 leads east to the Kassel district of Harleshausen .

At the end of the cul-de-sac is a little below a 438.6 m high field path, the Friedrichstein hikers' car park  , from where you can start the ascent to the Hohen Dörnberg, for example on the extra tour  H2 of the Habichtswaldsteig and on the eco path Archeology Dörnberg ; both run through Friedrichstein. North past the hamlet, beyond the Heilerbach, the Märchenlandweg (fairy tale path) that crosses the mountain to the north leads .
