from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article covers qualifying for the 2015 Asia Cup in Australia .

mode

The mode has not changed since the last qualifying round . In addition to hosts Australia, the best three teams from the 2011 Asian Cup also qualified directly for the finals. Since Australia finished second, only two other teams qualified this way ( Japan as title holder and South Korea as third).

Eleven participants were determined via the regular qualification, the other two places went to the winners of the AFC Challenge Cups 2012 and 2014 , North Korea and Palestine .

In the regular qualification, the 20 seeded national teams were drawn in five groups of four teams each. The teams play the two teams that qualify directly for the final round in the first and second legs. As runners-up Asian champions Australia had already qualified as hosts, the best group third also reached the finals.

The draw took place in Melbourne on October 9, 2012 , and the following pots were drawn from the results of the 2011 Asian Cup and its qualifications:

  • Lottery pot 1: Uzbekistan, Qatar, Iran, Jordan, Iraq
  • Lottery pot 2: China, Bahrain, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait
  • Lottery pot 3: Saudi Arabia, Oman, Thailand, Yemen, Vietnam
  • Lottery pot 4: Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Lebanon, Hong Kong

  2. in the event of a tie, points from the direct comparisons of the teams with the same points
  3. Goal difference from direct comparisons of teams with equal points

  6. Penalty shoot-out (only possible if the two teams concerned meet in the last game)
