The Football Bayern League 1988/89 was the 11th season of the Bavarian Football Association 's Bayernliga as an amateur league . The master of the Bavarian League played similarly to previous years in the promotion round against the champions of the other top leagues for the promotion to the 2. Bundesliga , while the runner-up to participate in the Amateur Championship was justified. From the Bayern League, the SpVgg Unterhaching finally qualified for the second time in a row for the promotion round in 1989 , in which, after the failure in the previous year, they also won promotion. TSV Ampfing , SpVgg Landshut , FC Wacker Munich and 1. FC Kronach were relegated to the subordinate leagues .

They were replaced in the following season by the teams of FC Memmingen , VfB Helmbrechts , SpVgg Plattling and SpVgg Starnberg , who were promoted to the Bayern League. No club was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga to the Bayernliga, which reduced the number of teams to 16 in the 1989/90 season.
