Preliminary round ( group 1 )

The finals started well for Spain, defeating Denmark 3-2 with goals from Michel , Butragueño and Gordillo . But these should remain the only goals of the Spaniards at this tournament, because they lost against Italy after a goal by Vialli with 0: 1, and on the third matchday it was a double strike by Rudi Völler who made it 2-0 for hosts Germany, and thus the departure of the Spaniards, sealed.
