After a more than 5 km long, approximately western run also through the place Breitengüßbach itself it flows from the left into the Main . Together with the longest of its upper reaches, the Zeilangergraben , it reaches a total length of almost 11 km, on which it has a gradient of about 128 m.

geography

The Güßbach arises east of the parish village of Breitengüßbach at the junction of the district road BA 6 from the BA 16 near the sewage treatment plant of the church village Zückshut at about 256  m above sea level. NHN . There the somewhat longer right arm of the Zeilangergraben flows together with the left Kesselbach , which has the larger catchment area .

Right upper course Zeilangergraben

It arises at about 364  m above sea level. NHN on the municipality border to Markt Zapfendorf next to the BA 6 a little southeast of its church village Sassendorf in the Feldflus and initially flows about west. After he has passed the Breitengüßbacher Kirchdorf Hohengüßbach a little before the northern edge, he enters a forest valley under the slope Sommerleite , at the end of which he is only a little over 280  m above sea level. NHN turns quickly to the south and now runs along the tree line of the Kellerholz to the open corridor on the right slope around the Unteroberndorf , which has grown together with Breitengüßbach . After the Pfaffenwiese he crosses under the BA 16, on the south side of which he is about 256  m above sea level. NHN merges with the Kesselbach.

Left upper course Kesselbach

The longest, but only inconsistently pouring upper course of the Kesselbach arises about 300 meters east of the source of the Zeilangergraben on BA 10 leading from BA 6 to the wasteland of Leimershof at almost the same height as it. It initially flows southwards and into the Röhrigholz forest with a significantly shorter, but constant left upper course, which at the end of the solar system that extends south from Leimershof is only about 310  m above sea level. NHN arises. From here on, the Kesselbach runs steadily west-southwest, mostly meandering freely through the forest and on the municipality border to Memmelsdorf to the Breitengüßbacher Kirchdorf Zückshut . It flows past its northern edge, from there straightened further west, passes the sewage treatment plant below the street village, changes to the other side of the BA 16 that runs through it and then soon unites with the right Zeilangergraben to the Güßbach .

Lower Güßbach

The Güßbach maintains the western direction of flow of the Kesselbach and initially crosses the wooded parcel of Untere Gehäu . There branches at 250  m above sea level. NHN the parallel Mühlgraben from and both waters enter the local area of Breitengüßbach itself. After the second crossing of the Erlein village road , the branches come together again, whereupon the stream immediately crosses under the route of the Bamberg – Hof railway line . To the west of Bamberger Strasse , it swings a little more northerly into the old town center and then passes under the grounds of the Catholic parish church of St. Leonhard and its medieval cemetery. To the west of Bachgasse it comes to light again and reaches the newer industrial zone where the A73 Nürnberg – Suhl crosses it. Further to the northwest, some quarry ponds, about 40 hectares in size, occupy  the now flat ground in the Main Valley, where the open course initially ends. Beyond the B 279 on the west side of the Brückenhaussee lake, which belongs to the lake group , it then flows almost 11 km below the source of the Zeilangergraben from the left and east to about 236  m above sea level. NHN , meanwhile already in Baunach city area, in the Obermain .

Catchment area

The almost 14 sq km catchment area is located in the subspace Rodach-Itz-hills of the natural environment Itz-Baunach Hill Country . His with about 374  m above sea level. NHN's highest point is not far from the origins of both upper reaches between Sassenbach and Leimershof. Adjacent catchment areas in the north are in turn that of the very short Sorrow Trench , the valley of which, however, can be traced eastwards from its confluence with the Main to around Sassendorf. There, on the other side of the highest section of the watershed, the Laufer Bach competes for a short time, which flows into the Obermain above the pain trench. The area beyond the eastern and the long southeastern catchment area border drains in a long curve below the Güßbach tributary of the Leitenbach to the Obermain, that behind the southern one the Bösengraben . In the southwest, the Bösengraben and its right tributary Leigraben drain less far down into the Obermain. In the remainder of the arc from the southwest to the northwest, no larger flowing waters could form in front of the nearby Main.
