Güngör Şahinkaya (born August 1, 1954 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. He was one of the most important and consistent members of the Trabzonspor team that became the first Anatolian team to win the Turkish championship, and for eleven seasons he was part of that club's great team, which, nicknamed Karadeniz Fırtınası , dominated Turkish football for a decade from 1975 onwards .

Four of his five older brothers were also active as professional football players and, like Güngör, played either for Trabzonspor or its predecessor clubs. He comes from a family that has played a key role in shaping football in Trabzon for two generations as football players or officials and has been involved in many important successes.

Career

society

Şahinkaya played from 1971 for the youth department of Trabzonspor , the strongest club in his hometown. This fact was favored by the fact that several of its family members had been active as players or club officials at Trabzonspor or its predecessor clubs. This club was founded in 1967 by the merger of several local clubs and had the intention to represent the city of Trabzon in the 1st Lig with local talent . In the second division season 1973/74 this club led the league confidently, reached the championship of the 2nd Lig at the end of the season and thus the long-awaited promotion to the 1st Lig. The first season in the top Turkish division ended Trabzonspor team in ninth place in the table and by the way reached the Turkish Cup final for the first time in the club's history . In the second first division season, the club surprisingly won the Turkish championship. Up to this season, the three big Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş Istanbul , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul decided the championship of the 1st Lig among themselves. With Eskişehirspor , another Anatolian club narrowly missed the championship three times, but the ban remained. It was only solved with Trabzonspor's championship. The team also won the President's Cup and the Prime Minister's Cup this season . Şahinkaya was in the professional squad this season, but remained without a competitive game. Only in his second season was Şahinkaya used in competitive games, but remained only a substitute player. He made his professional debut on August 4, 1976 in the TSYD Istanbul Cup game against Fenerbahçe. In the 1976/77 season his club succeeded in defending the title in the Turkish championship and the first title in the Turkish Cup. This meant that Şahinkaya, who was used in six competitive games this season, also belonged to the team that won the first Turkish double victory in the club's history. After these very successful two seasons Trabzonspor only awarded the championship to Fenerbahçe in the 1977/78 season with a point difference, but was able to get the two remaining cups. Among other things, the club's first title defense in this competition was the Turkish Cup. Şahinkaya only appeared in one competitive game this season and was otherwise a reservist.

Trabzonspor got into great financial difficulties in 1978 and saw the solution in selling some stars. In addition, they wanted to carry out a revision in the team squad. After this revision, Şahinkaya was used regularly and captured the hoped-for regular place during the 1978/79 season. At the end of the season, his team again won the Turkish Championship and the President's Cup , an earlier version of the later Turkish Supercup . In the next season, the 1979/80 season , he succeeded with his club to defend the title in the Turkish championship and in the President's Cup. Şahinkaya played 39 competitive games this season and was with his two teammates Şenol Güneş and Turgay Semercioğlu one of three games with the most competitive appearances of his club. In the following season, Şahinkaya's team managed to defend their title in the Turkish championship. As a result, Trabzonspor was the second club after Galatasaray Istanbul to win the Turkish championship three times in a row. After these successful three seasons, Şahinkaya injured himself in the league game of September 13, 1981 against Diyarbakırspor , fell through almost the entire season 1981/82 and his club was only available again towards the end of the season. In the 1982/1983 season he was fully operational again and completed all of his club's league games. His team narrowly missed the Turkish championship twice in these two seasons. While the club remained completely untitled in the 1981/82 season, the President's Cup was won in 1982/1983. For this reason, the club invested in new players in the summer of 1983 and brought on aspiring young players such as Hasan Şengün , Hasan Vezir and Kemal Serdar . With the reinforcements, Trabzonspor got off to a good start in the 1983/84 season and fought head-to-head for the Turkish championship with Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul. Before the 26th matchday, Trabzonspor took first place in the table with just one point ahead of the two opponents. Already in the Saturday game of this match day Galatasaray lost 3-0 to Orduspor and thus enabled Trabzonspor to achieve a first preliminary decision towards the championship by an away win against the other direct rivals Fenerbahçe. In the hard-fought game, which was sold out with 26,000 spectators, both teams played a thrilling game. Trabzonspor won the game 1-0 with a goal from Hasan Şengün in the 89th minute. With this victory, the club took an important step towards the championship. For the remaining game days, she confidently kept the point lead and reached the sixth and, for the time being, last championship in the club's history. Şahinkaya again completed almost all of his team's league games this season. With her, Şahinkaya also won the Turkish Football Cup this season and was also involved in the second and last Turkish double winner Trabzonspor.

The following three seasons remained Şahinkaya with his team below expectations and could not win any title until the summer of 1986, except for the Prime Minister's Cup of the 1984/85 season. So a revision was carried out in the team squad and decided to put some players, including Şahinkaya, on sale. So he switched to league rivals Zonguldakspor in November 1986 and ended his career here in the summer of 1987.

National team

Şahinkaya began his national team career in 1980 with a play in a friendly against the Saudi Arabian national team . In this game, which his team could win 3-0, he made his international debut. By January 1984, he completed five more internationals.

Coaching career

Şahinkaya obtained the UEFA Pro License after his footballing career . In the 200s he started to work for the Turkish Football Association as a youth coach and talent scout and continued this activity until autumn 2014.

Family and childhood

Şahinkaya comes from a family who came from Gümüşhane , a neighboring town of Trabzon , settled in Trabzon and was born in Trabzon in 1954. According to some information, he was born in 1956 and was then portrayed as older by his father. His father İbrahim Şahinkaya was one of the long -established craftsmen of the Trabzon city center and ran a craft shop across from the market mosque (Turkish: Çarşı Cami). İbrahim Şahinkaya played football for Trabzon İdmangücü , one of four clubs that merged into Trabzonspor in 1967 , and was one of the city's most important football figures even after his active career. The family had seven children, six boys and one girl. The boys became five football players: Yılmaz (1937), Coşkun (1942), Sabahattin (1945), Bülent (1948) and Güngör (1954) and played football with varying degrees of success in the top Turkish leagues at the time. While Yılmaz (better known by his nickname Kabak Yılmaz, German: "Yılmaz, the pumpkin") spent his entire career before the Trabzonspor era and therefore played in the regional league for Trabzon İdmanocağı , the arch rival of Trabzon İdmangücü Coşkun and Bülent in the Turkish professional leagues for clubs. Coşkun first played for Trabzon İdmangücü, then moved to the 1st Lig , the highest Turkish division, to the capital club MKE Ankaragücü and joined Trabzonspor in 1967. This club was not re-established until 1967, which means that Coşkun and his younger brother Bülent were part of the founding squad. Bülent did not join Trabzonspor until 1968 and quickly rose to become team captain. He later moved to Galatasaray Istanbul and had to end his career in 1976 due to injury. Sabahattin played for Trabzon Gençlerbirliği and began later in Istanbul , a study of medicine . During his studies he played for the Istanbul club Süleymaniye SK . Later he concentrated on his education and made it to the position of medicine professor.
