Günther Braun (politician)
Günther Braun , also: Günter Braun (born January 8, 1916 in Stettin ; † January 20, 2004 in Schwerin ) was a German politician ( SED ). He was Lord Mayor of the city of Schwerin.
Life
Günther Braun, son of a railway worker, visited the elementary and middle school in Schwerin. After completing a commercial apprenticeship, he worked as an accountant . In 1939 he was drafted into the army for military service. In 1945/46 he was in Soviet captivity .
In 1946 Braun joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). In 1946/47 he worked as secretary of the Mewegen municipal administration , in 1947/48 he was employed by the council of the district of Löcknitz and from 1948 to 1950 district councilor in Randow . From 1950 to 1952 he served as chairman of the Parchim district council and from 1952 to 1956 as chairman of the Güstrow district council . Braun completed a degree in law at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg . From 1956 to 1958 he was a member of the Schwerin district council and authorized representative for rural construction. From 1958 to 1961 he was Deputy Chairman of the Schwerin District Council and Chairman of the District Economic Council. Braun was also a member of the district management and a candidate for the district management office of the SED Schwerin. He was also a member of the Schwerin District Assembly . From September 28, 1961 to March 20, 1969, as Lord Mayor, he directed the fortunes of the city of Schwerin (successor to Gustav Schwantz ). Later he worked as a department head for vocational training and career counseling at the advice of the district of Schwerin.
