Juggler and Cabaret Festival (Koblenz)
The International Juggler and Cabaret Festival Koblenz (GAUKLERFESTung) is a festival for jugglers , acrobats , comedians and similar artists , which is held in the old town of Koblenz ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). The event, which has been taking place at the end of July or beginning of August since 1992, the year of the 2000th anniversary of the city of Koblenz, is attended by around 50,000 people every year.
procedure
The festival of cabaret lasts three days and started, until the event was relocated to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress , with a vaudeville gala on Friday evening in the school yard of the Görres-Gymnasium . On Saturdays and Sundays, international jugglers, walk-act artists, jugglers and clowns were out in the open air in the old town to entertain visitors of all ages on stages, squares, alleys and in the juggler's tent. The juggler's gala takes place annually on Saturday evening, with some artists presenting their program at the grand finale on Sunday evening. A jury determines the winners and awards the Koblenz juggler prizes.
In 2009 admission was charged for the first time for the three evening programs, the remaining appearances were free. In 2010 around 80 national and international artists took part in the festival. The organizer of the "International Juggler and Cabaret Festival Koblenz" is Koblenz-Touristik, the artistic direction is taken over by Café Hahn . The festival is part of the Rhineland-Palatinate cultural summer and is thus funded by the state.
Under the motto "GAUKLERFESTung", the event took place for the first time in 2013 not in the old town of Koblenz, but at the Ehrenbreitstein fortress . After the festival took place for the second time at the fortress in 2015, the decision was made to always organize the event in the future on Ehrenbreitstein, organized by the “Förderverein Kultur im Café Hahn”. In addition to the revitalization of the fortress, which is connected to the old town by a cable car , the refinancing through entrance fees is an argument in favor of the new venue.
