Gebhard I. (Regensburg)
Gebhard I († March 27, 1023 ) was the 14th Bishop of Regensburg from 994 to 1023.
Although the predecessor, Saint Wolfgang with Otto III. when his successor Tagino had determined and this was already chosen in Regensburg, Otto III decided. in favor of Gebhard I from the von Andechs-Dießen family. Gebhard I was the first bishop who was not also abbishop of the St. Emmeram monastery . Wolfgang had helped the monastery to become independent with the abbot Ramwod . This promoted the spiritual and cultural life of the monastery enormously, at the same time meant a great economic loss for the diocese. Gebhard I. tried to regain its original influence over the monastery, which led to massive tensions. The conflict continued under Henry II , who intervened in favor of the monastery. When the Prüll Monastery was founded , it took on a task of accommodating strangers that the Sankt Emmeram Monastery had previously performed.
