Gebhard Karl Ludolf von Alvensleben (born August 31, 1798 in Magdeburg , † December 29, 1867 in Berlin ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry .

Life

origin

Gebhard Karl Ludolf came from the Low German noble family von Alvensleben . He was the eldest son of Gebhard Johann Achaz von Alvensleben (1764-1840), owner of Gut Randau and Gut Woltersdorf , and his wife Karoline Therese Dorothea, born von Radecke (born May 5, 1772 in Brandenburg an der Havel ; † 10. January 1812 in Woltersdorf).

Military career

At the age of 16, Alvensleben took part in the Wars of Liberation as a volunteer in the 5th Kurmark Landwehr Cavalry Regiment from April 1815 ; among others at the battles of Ligny and Belle-Alliance . After the end of the war, he was employed on February 13, 1816 as a portepeef ensign in the 6th Cuirassier Regiment , and on August 18, 1818, he was promoted to secondary lieutenant. In the further course of his military career Alvensleben worked there from September 15, 1838 as Rittmeister and squadron chief . In mid-March 1845 he was promoted to major and a year later he was used as an adjutant at the General Command of the IV Army Corps . King Friedrich Wilhelm IV appointed him his wing adjutant on December 20, 1846 . In this position Alvensleben was also commander of the body gendarmerie on May 24, 1848 . In the following years he was then on September 26, 1850. Lieutenant Colonel and on December 2, 1851 to Colonel promoted. With his promotion to major general on October 15, 1856, Alvensleben was released from the command of the body gendarmerie and left in his position as wing adjutant general à la suite .

On July 23, 1857, Alvensleben received the post of commandant of Berlin. At the same time he was commissioned on August 8, 1857 with the management of the affairs of the rural gendarmerie . As lieutenant general , Alvensleben finally became the real chief of the rural gendarmerie on April 21, 1865, and on September 20, 1866 he was promoted to general of the cavalry.

Alvensleben was buried on January 2, 1868 in Charlottenburg .

On October 19, 1823 Alvensleben married in Brandenburg with Eugenie Sophie Eleonore Karoline Henriette von Oppell (born June 10, 1801 in Empl; † November 12, 1848 in Charlottenburg). The marriage resulted in two sons and two daughters; including:

  • Gebhard Nikolaus (1824–1909), head forester
  • Gustav Hermann (1827–1905), Prussian general of the cavalry
  • Natalia (October 25, 1830 - February 4, 1906) ∞ Carl von Treuenfels (January 7, 1818 - November 12, 1894), parents of Carl von Treuenfels
