Gefell is a part of the municipality of Föritztal in the district of Sonneberg in Thuringia .

Gefell lies on the Föritz water , like Rottmar and Föritz themselves in the hilly country of the Oberlinder plain, near the border with Bavaria . The federal road 89 and the district road 29 open up the area for traffic.
history
In 1162 and 1182, Gefell was first mentioned in a document. The Nikolaus Church of Gefell is located on a hill and is surrounded by a curtain wall that dates back to the 16th century. On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Rottmar was incorporated. In 1994 the place became part of the municipality of Föritz, which in turn merged with two other municipalities on July 6, 2018 to form the new municipality of Föritztal.
