Heubisch is a district of the municipality of Föritztal in the southern Thuringian district of Sonneberg .

geography

Heubisch is located in the southwest of the municipality directly on the Thuringian-Bavarian border and thus in the immediate vicinity of the “Green Belt” . The closest mountain is the Muppberg with a height of 516 m. The Steinach flows through the place. The Iron Curtain European Cycle Route also runs through the town.

history

The first documentary mention of Heubisch can be found in a document from 1162, in which the Banz monastery got its former property (historical name: Hiwisch) back.

In 1920 Heubisch got a connection to the railway network with the Steinachtalbahn . In July 1945, operations on the section between Fürth am Berg and Neustadt-Süd ceased.

During the GDR times, Heubisch was in the restricted area of the inner-German border . In 1952, twelve families from Heubisch were forcibly resettled by the GDR authorities on the “ Ungeziefer ” train .

After reunification , the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany bought some parcels of land in the former border strip near Heubisch in order to offer sustainable protection to the fauna ( dipper , kingfisher ) living there . The Müßholz nature reserve is now located here .

In 1994 Heubisch was incorporated into Föritz.

Since 2002, Heubisch has been growing with the "Ackerstraße" residential area. At the end of January 2002, during a flood of the Steinach, the listed sandstone arch bridge, which had been built with three arches in 1819, was badly damaged and had to be demolished that same year. In January 2009 the new bridge - now with one opening - was completed. Two old sandstones were reused for decorative purposes.

In 2016, the local council of Föritz decided to unite with the communities Judenbach and Neuhaus-Schierschnitz.

On July 6, 2018, Föritz, Judenbach and Neuhaus-Schierschnitz finally merged to form the Föritztal community.

The flight captain Wilhelm Truckenbrodt (* June 17, 1890 - August 14, 1960 ) was also born in Heubisch. On June 1, 1922, he founded the first Bodensee-Luftverkehrsgesellschaft (BLV) Willy Truckenbrodt & Co. - Seaplane Operations.
