Schwärzdorf is located southeast of Sonneberg , near the Bavarian border with the Kronach district . The federal highway 89 runs to the southwest . The Schwarza flows through the village and flows into the Föritz. The Föritz in turn forms a tributary of the Steinach . The former route of the Sonneberg – Stockheim railway line crosses the district. On the brick bridge built in 1900/01 there is now a cycle path.

history

On July 8, 1151, the village was first mentioned as "Suerzgereldorf".

In 1844 Schwärzdorf had 117 inhabitants who lived in 17 houses and ran cattle, agriculture and timber trading. It belonged to the administrative office of Sonneberg in the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen .

During the First World War (1914-1918), 78 Schwärzdorf men were called up for military service. The teacher Edmund Back (himself a war participant) wrote down the names of victims of World War I from Schwärzdorf. According to his notes, the following fell:

Adolf Liebermann, Emil Leutheuser, Hermann Jahn, Louis Rebhan, August Schubert, Gustav Leutheuser, Karl Heublein, Alfred Löffler, Johann Barnikol, Wilhelm Diller, Karl Welsch II, Albin Heublein, Richard Bär, Richard Renner, Fritz Renner, Max Heublein from Lindenberg , Emil Schmidt, Max Heublein from Eichitz, Emil Engelhardt from Eichitz, Moritz Engelhardt from Eichitz.

The following were missing: Emil Junius, Wilhelm Hartmann, teacher; Richard Heublein, Emil Schubert, Christian Frosch, Karl Frosch, August Fischer.

A municipality of Föritz-Schwärzdorf, which was founded on April 1st in 1923 on the basis of a decree by the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior, consisting of the towns of Eichitz, Föritz and Schwärzdorf, was dissolved a year later.

On August 1, 1924, Schwärzdorf and Eichitz, which had merged into one municipality with Föritz since April 1, 1923, were again separated out and independent municipalities. There was great joy, especially since the merger had shown that a lasting unity was out of the question. The council and council were newly elected. A merger of Schwärzdorf and Eichitz did not materialize either, as it was believed that each municipality should regain its former independence. The board of directors of Schwärzdorf was Max Schindhelm, Mayor Emil Stegner, and local accountant August Meusel. The following were elected to the local council: Louis Oettler, Johann Wöhner, Gustav Heublein, Gustav Wicklein., Wilhelm Engelhardt, Adolf Liebermann, Julius Wicklein, chairman of the local council Gustav Heublein. The election took place on August 15th.

On July 1, 1950, Schwärzdorf was incorporated into Föritz. Föritz went up on July 6, 2018 in the new municipality of Föritztal . The school with a clock tower was built in 1911 and is still used today as a primary school.
