Community of European Railways
The Community of European Railways ( GEB ; French Communauté européenne du rail (CER)) is an interest group of railway transport (EVU) and railway infrastructure companies (EIU) from the European Union and its neighboring countries.
The business association, founded in 1988 and based in Brussels , has set itself the task of representing the interests of its more than 70 members vis-à-vis European institutions (e.g. the European Commission ) and decision-makers. The focus is on promoting the railways as a promising and sustainable means of transport, with the removal of technical and bureaucratic obstacles being an important goal ( interoperability ). It was founded in 1958 as part of the International Union of Railways UIC.
Libor Lochman has been Executive Director since January 1, 2012. From January 1, 2014 to May 17, 2016, ÖBB General Director Christian Kern was chairman. He resigned after his appointment as Austrian Chancellor. Rüdiger Grube , CEO of Deutsche Bahn, was elected as his successor .
At the beginning of 2020, Andreas Matthä , CEO of ÖBB, succeeded Crister Fritzson (Association of Swedish Train Operating Companies, ASTOC) as President.

decisions
- In 2003, the European state railways , which are members of the Community of European Railways (CER), committed themselves to purchasing new wagons exclusively with composite brake blocks (K-blocks). In vehicles in which the brake blocks act on the cycling surface, these contribute to a reduced wheel-rail noise of 8 to 10 dB (A) by - unlike the gray cast iron brake blocks that are still used as standard equipment today - the driving surfaces Do not roughen the wheelsets when braking .
