Sint Martinus Church in Riemst

Riemst ( Limburgish : Riems ) is a municipality in Belgium in the southeast of the Flemish province of Limburg . The community has 16,755 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). The municipality is bounded by the neighboring Flemish municipalities of Tongeren , Hoeselt , Bilzen , Lanaken , the Walloon municipalities of Bassenge (German: Bitsingen) and Visé (German: Weset) and the Dutch city ​​of Maastricht .

Attractions

In Riemst there are many sights, such as protected monuments, numerous marl caves , mushroom growers and with the Castle Genoels-Elderen the only wine castle in Flanders .

Riemst consists of the localities: Genoelselderen , Herderen , Kanne , Membruggen , Millen , Riemst, Val-Meer , Vlijtingen , Vroenhoven and Zichen-Zussen-Bolder , which were merged into one municipality in 1977.
