Life

The Thudichum family comes from Marbach am Neckar . Friedrich Valentin Thudichum (born March 19, 1754 in Marbach; † June 28, 1818 in Nidda), friends with the Schiller family and distantly related to him through his mother, emigrated from Württemberg in 1778 because he received a frank text about the revelation of Johannes had blocked access to the Württemberg church service. He was first pastor in Eudorf and then inspector ( dean ) in Nidda . Friedrich was married to Magdalena Marie, b. Löber (May 3, 1767 in Sellnrod; † January 4, 1813 in Nidda). The marriage concluded in Eudorf on October 31, 1784 resulted in eight children, including Georg and his brother, who later became a member of the state parliament, Ludwig Thudichum .

Son Georg became a pupil of Friedrich Gottlieb Welcker , devoted himself to theology and philology and in 1814 took part in the wars of liberation against Napoleon Bonaparte as a volunteer hunter . During his studies he became a member of the Teutsche Reading Society (1815) and the Germanic Association . After completing his studies in 1818, he became the third pastor of the United Parish in Büdingen and at the same time a teacher at the local grammar school. In 1839 he became director of the grammar school and in 1842 a member of the Oberstudienrath in Darmstadt . His students included the dramatist and important rhetorician Adolf Calmberg and the later SDAP co-founder Samuel Spier . In 1863 he retired and lived for the last few years in Darmstadt, where he died on December 27, 1873 at the age of 80.

On October 31, 1828 married Thudichum in Grünberg born, the 23-year-old Frederike Baist (March 14, 1805 - April 23, 1879). The marriage resulted in three sons and three daughters: Karl, Friedrich Wolfgang Karl von Thudichum , a respected legal scholar and Johann Ludwig Wilhelm Thudichum, who is considered the founder of brain chemistry, as well as Luise, Marie and Ottilie. His daughter Ottilie married Hermann Weber , who later became President of the State Parliament .

Works

Thudichum on the 24th birthday of Frederike

O take, you beloved being,
you of my soul's purest air
,
whom your faithfulness will choose to you, the happy one on your breast.

Only a wreath to adorn your head,
I only offer a stammering word,
For I am unable to express
what moves me wonderfully.

Thoughts willingly
do not follow the art law of rhyme,
my mind indulges itself without barriers,
my whole heart is a poem.
