George Washington Christensen (* 13. December 1909 in Pendleton , Oregon ; † 1. July 1968 in Aspen , Colorado ) Nickname : Tarzan was an American American football poker players. He played in the National Football League (NFL).
Player career
Christensen attended high school in his hometown . He played American football from 1928 to 1930 at the University of Oregon . During his career, the college football team won 23 of 30 games. From 1931 to 1938 Christensen played in the NFL, first together with his partner in the offensive line Ox Emerson until 1933 for the Portsmouth Spartans . Both were responsible for protecting quarterback / tailback Dutch Clark , a future member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame .
Christensen played for the Detroit Lions until 1938 after the team moved from Portsmouth to Detroit . In 1935, the Lions under Head Coach Potsy Clark won the NFL championship 26-7 against the New York Giants . Christensen ended his career in 1938.
Honors
Christensen is a member of the NFL 1930s All-Decade Team . From 1931 to 1936 he was elected all-pro . He is in the Hall of Fame at his university.
After the career
With his former Lions teammate Frank Christensen , George Christensen started a company in Salt Lake City , Utah , that made diamond tools. The company also opened a branch in Celle in 1957 . The two former football players also founded the Christensen Machine Company , which later merged with Baker Hughes . George Christensen died of heart failure and is buried in Red Butte Cemetery in Aspen.
