George Christoph von Arnim

George Christoph von Arnim (born June 24, 1723 in Lyck , Masuria , † October 16, 1789 in Arnoldsmühl ) was a German officer in the Prussian Army . Most recently he was lieutenant general and regiment chief of the cuirassier regiment "von Woldeck" No. 4 .

Life

Georg Christoph was the second son of Colonel a. D. Anton Detlefs von Arnim (* November 11, 1680; † 1744), gentleman on Güterberg , Schwarzensee and Bütow and his wife Ilsabe Maria von Raven from the Holzendorf house (* 1695; † June 27, 1739).

From October 12, 1736, Arnim attended the Knight's Academy in Dom Brandenburg and was then employed on December 25, 1738 as an Estandartenjunker in the cuirassier regiment "Gens d'armes" No. 10 of the Prussian army . With this he took part in the campaign in 1740/42 and was meanwhile on January 5, 1741 cornet and on October 3, 1745 lieutenant . On May 27, 1756 he was promoted to staff assistant master and then to Rittmeister . In 1757 he became a major , on August 27, 1758, a lieutenant colonel and on September 11, 1764, a colonel.

On April 28, 1764 he became commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Röder" No. 1 and on June 16, 1769 chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 4. Almost three months later, on September 7, 1769, he was promoted to major general and on May 20, 1785 to lieutenant general.

From 1741 he was involved in all campaigns and the sieges of Brieg, Prague, Schweidnitz, Olomouc and Dresden. He was neither captured nor wounded in nine battles: Battle of Hohenfriedberg , Battle of Soor , Battle of Lobositz , Battle of Leuthen , Battle of Zorndorf , Battle of Hochkirch , Battle of Liegnitz (1760) and Battle of Torgau . Because of his bravery in the Battle of Rossbach , Frederick II (Prussia) awarded him the Pour le Mérite . On 22 September 1785 Arnim was charged with a pension of 2,000 thalers dimittiert .

Arnim was married to Anna Maria von Münchow († October 2, 1784) from the Hanse Nassau since 1759 . They didn't have any children. In his second marriage he was married to Jeannette Friederike Beigna Countess von Sandretzky (born November 14, 1746, † December 12, 1789). She was the widow of General Johann Ferdinand von Stechow (born January 11, 1718, † March 18, 1778)
