Gerd Löffler (politician, 1927)

Gerd Löffler (born August 10, 1927 in Xaverhof near Łódź , † January 9, 2004 in Berlin ) was a German politician.

Life

Löffler began his studies in 1945 at the Pedagogical College Gera, where he passed the first state examination for teaching qualifications in 1948 and the second a year later. He then worked in the Thuringian school service until May 1950 . He was then dismissed without notice because he rejected the SED's unified list . Therefore, he left the GDR in the same year and went to West Berlin . There he was accepted into the school service in 1951 and began to study political science and modern history at the Free University of Berlin , which he graduated in 1959 with a diploma in political science. In September 1964 he became head of the Schöneberg Adult Education Center and remained in this position until 1970.

Political career

After joining the SPD in 1958, he became a member of the SPD district committee in Charlottenburg in 1961 . In 1968 he became a member of the state executive committee and state party conference delegate of the party, in 1977 he took over the state chairmanship of his party for two years. He took over the chairmanship of the Wedding district in 1986. His election as deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group took place in 1989. Although he retained this position for only one year, he remained district chairman in Wedding until 1991.

He was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives from 1963 to 1990 , Senator for Education from 1970 to 1975 and Senator for Science and Art from 1975 to 1977.

His grave is in the Berlin Dahlem cemetery .
