The Gers is an approximately 10.2 km long right-hand or south-eastern tributary of the Schwalm in the East Hessian mountainous region . It flows in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district and belongs to the river system and catchment area of ​​the Weser .

The Gers rises in the East Hessian mountainous region in the northwestern foothills of the Knüllgebirge . Its source is about 2.5 km east-northeast of the Frielendorf district of Schönborn in the valley between the Kornberg ( 353.9  m above sea  level ) in the north and the Riemenhainskopf ( 365.1  m above sea level ) in the south at an altitude of about 339  m .

Initially, the Gers, which runs mainly north-west, flows roughly westwards in the direction of the neighboring districts of Frielendorf, Schönborn and Leimsfeld , which are south and north of the brook . From then on, it runs northwestwards and, after crossing under the federal highway 254 and the route of the former cannon railway, passes northeast the Schwalmstadt village of Rörshain , where it flows past the Hardtmühle and Zeigerichsmühle . Then it passes the former Rörshain airfield to the northeast and the Landsburg mountain near the mouth ( 342.7  m above sea level ) to the south.

Shortly afterwards , the Gers flows under the Main-Weser-Bahn , just under 1 km north of the Schwalmstadt district of Allendorf in the Gansau after overcoming an altitude difference of about 136 m to about 203  m above sea level. NN into the Eder tributary Schwalm coming from the south .
