Giovanni Paolo Benotto (born September 23, 1949 in Pisa , Italy ) is Archbishop of Pisa and thus Primate of Corsica and Sardinia .

Life

Giovanni Paolo Benotto first spent his childhood and youth in Pugnano and later attended an elementary school in Ripafratta, which was supported by Poor Clares . He then attended a state secondary school in San Giuliano Terme and then the secondary school "Ulisse Dini" in Pisa, where he obtained his university entrance qualification in 1968 . After studying Catholic theology and philosophy at the Archbishop's Seminary in Pisa, he received the sacrament of ordination on June 28, 1973 . Then he was until 1980 bishop secretary to the Archbishop of Pisa, Benvenuto Matteucci . From 1980 to 1993 he was prior of the parish of San Michele Arcangelo in Oratoio in Piano di Pisa . In 1993 he was appointed vicar general of the Archdiocese of Pisa by Archbishop Alessandro Plotti , and in 1994 he was admitted to the Pisa primate chapter as cathedral chapter .

On July 5, 2003 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the Bishop of Tivoli . The Archbishop of Pisa, Alessandro Plotti, donated his episcopal consecration on September 7th of the same year in Pisa Cathedral ; Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Italy and San Marino , Archbishop Paolo Romeo , and the Bishop Emeritus of Tivoli, Pietro Garlato . The ceremonial inauguration in Tivoli ( enthronement ) took place on October 4, 2003.

On February 2, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI called him . to the Archbishop of Pisa; the inauguration took place on April 6 of the same year.
