The Gloria Theater was built in 1959 as a cinema in Bad Säckingen according to plans by the architect Albert Ruf . Since 2007 it has not been operated as a pure cinema, but as a musical and guest theater .

history

On November 26, 1959, the Gloria was opened as a cinema theater in Friedrichstrasse 21 in Bad Säckingen and in the first few years it was mainly operated as a cinema , but also as a concert and theater house by the Timmermann family from Geislingen aS. The first film to be shown was “ Heimat - Deine Lieder ” with Sabine Bethmann and Rudolf Lenz. In 1965 the operator Timmermann died, leaving his wife with a mountain of debt. The Gloria Theater was foreclosed. The city of Säckingen became the new owner. This leased it to the company Karl Krott Theaterbetrieb. In 1973 the cinema was closed for one year. In April of the same year the subscription series BZ-Theaterring started, with six events per season, operettas ,Offered plays and operas . In 1974 Curt Prinzbach Kinobetriebe GmbH leased the house. But the audience numbers of the 1960s could not be reached for a long time and the era of large cinemas in rural areas was over from an economic point of view. In 1982, sex films were included in the late-night program for the first time, which led to a lively correspondence between the dean and the mayor of Bad Säckingen.

2005 Gloria Theater as a typical representative was architecture of the 1950s as a monument to the list of monuments. In 2006, plans to demolish the Gloria Theater were discussed in the Bad Säckingen municipal council .

In 2007, the Gloria-Theater GmbH (formerly Hochrhein-Musicals GmbH & Co. KG) leased the theater on Friedrichstrasse and Jochen Frank Schmidt took over the management as director. The Gloria Theater is equipped with modern lighting and sound technology, a large stage with an orchestra pit, rows of seats and a balcony.
