Gloria Bistrița was a Romanian football club from Bistrița . The club was never able to become Romanian champions despite long-term membership in the first division, but won the Romanian Cup in 1994.

history

The club was founded on July 6, 1922 under the name Clubul de Fotbal Gloria 1922 Bistrița . Until the early 1950s, the club could not achieve any notable success. In 1950 the association was renamed Clubul de Fotbal PROGRESUL 1922 Bistrița , in 1958 it was renamed Clubul de Fotbal GLORIA 1922 Bistrița .

In 1957 the club rose to the second Romanian league. In 1962, the team played the first international game against Metropol , a team from Brazil , which, however, was lost 2-0. Until 1975 the club rose frequently between the second and third division, after which the team played continuously for 15 years in the second division.

From 1990 to 2011 the club played in Liga 1 , the highest Romanian league. On June 27, 2005 Ioan Sabau was hired as a coach, under whose leadership the team reached sixth place in the 2006/07 season and played in the UEFA Intertoto Cup . There the club failed in the third round, due to the away goals rule, at the Spanish top club Atlético Madrid . After the 7th day of the 2009/10 season , the head coach Sandu Tăbîrcă was dismissed and replaced by Marian Pană , who had to make way for Marius Șumudică during the winter break . This led Gloria to relegation before moving to Rapid Bucharest . His successor Laurențiu Reghecampf stayed at the beginning of the 2010/11 season until the 12th matchday before he was replaced by Nicolae Manea .

During the 2010/11 season, the Romanian Football Association added a passage to the licensing criteria for League 1 that provided a club to be free of debt from the Romanian state. Gloria Bistrița was then withdrawn on May 31, 2011 in the first instance, although the league had been ensured athletic. On July 18, 2011, the International Court of Justice confirmed the license revocation and Gloria had to go to League II after 21 years of membership in the first division . In the 2011/12 season , as the runner-up, he immediately rose again. However, the club had to relegate again as 18th from the first division after the 2012/13 season . In the 2014/15 season, the club rose from League III, went bankrupt and was dissolved.

The successor club ACF Gloria 1922 Bistriţa dissolved after three years and was unsuccessful. In the summer of 2018, the ACS Dumitra club changed its name to ACS 1. FC Gloria Bistrița in order to continue the club's tradition. 1. FC Gloria Bistrița is currently (as of 2018/19) in Liga III.
