Lamsdorf camp

A Prussian military training area had been set up near the village of Lamsdorf since 1864. In the wars of 1870/71 and 1914 to 1918 there were prisoner-of-war camps there, of which the graves in the cemetery bear testimony to this day. The village gained historical importance through the prisoner of war camp Stalag VIII B (344) Lamsdorf , which was operated from 1939 to 1945 as one of the largest German prisoner of war camps and from June 18, 1945 to autumn 1946 as an internment / labor camp as part of the expulsion of the Germans Upper Silesia served. A significant part of the camp inmates perished. The camp was located on the grounds of the Lamsdorf military training area.
