The Gmina Nysa [ ˈnɨsa ] is a town-and-country municipality in the powiat Nyski of the Opole Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of Powiat and municipality is the city of the same name ( German Neisse or Neisse ) with about 44,500 inhabitants.
Geographical location
The municipality has an area of 217.6 km² and is located about 45 kilometers southwest of Opole (Opole) . Otmuchów (Ottmachau) is five kilometers away. From its southwestern tip it is only four kilometers to the Czech border . The waters include the Nysa Kłodzka (Glatzer Neisse) . The Jezioro Nyskie reservoir is largely located in the municipal area.
history
In 1816 the region came under the administration of Upper Silesia . At the end of the Second World War it fell to Poland . In 1950 the municipality came to the Opole Voivodeship. This repeatedly changed its layout. The population share of the recognized German minority was 0.2 percent in the 2002 census.

Attractions
Nysa, which was badly damaged in 1945, is still rich in architectural monuments. It was called "Silesian Rome" because of its baroque architecture .
