Niwnica (German Neunz ) is a village in the rural municipality of Nysa (Neisse) in Poland . It is located in the powiat Nyski (Neisse district) in the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

The village of Niwnica is located in the southwest of the historical region of Upper Silesia . The place is about six kilometers southeast of the municipality and the district town of Nysa and about 63 kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Opole .

Niwnica is located in the Nizina Śląska ( Silesian Plain ) in the border area of ​​the Równina Niemodlińska ( Falkenberg plain ) to the Dolina Nysy Kłodzkiej ( Glatzer Neisse Valley ). The Kamienica ( Kamitz ) flows through the village . Niwnica is on Droga krajowa 41 .

history

Exaltation of the Cross Church

The village was first mentioned in 1226 as Neuniz . In the work Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis from the years 1295-1305, the place is first mentioned as Nwynicz . In 1369 it was mentioned as Neunicz . In 1415 a church was first mentioned in the village. In the interest register of 1588 the place is described with 49 hooves.

The Thirty Years War (1618–1648) interrupted the economic and cultural development in Neunz. In 1627 the Neisser Land was occupied by the troops of Wallenstein (about 40,000 soldiers). The village population had to take care of them and became impoverished. In 1642 the village and the church were burned down by Swedish soldiers.

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Neunz and most of Silesia fell to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community Neunz belonged from 1816 to the district of Neisse in the administrative district of Opole . In 1827 a Catholic school was established in the village. In 1845 there was a Catholic parish church, a Catholic school and another 116 houses in the village. In the same year, 686 people lived in Neunz, six of them Protestants. In 1855 there were 681 people living in the village. In 1865 the place had 34 farms, 24 gardeners and 34 cottagers. In 1874 the district of Neunz was founded, which consisted of the rural communities Kaundorf, Neunz and Wischke. In 1885 Neunz had 773 inhabitants.

In 1933, 720 people lived in Neunz, and 743 in 1939. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Neisse .

In 1945 the place came under Polish administration and was renamed Niwnica , the population was expelled. In 1950 Niwnica came to the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Nyski .

Attractions

  • The Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Cross (Polish Kościół Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego ) was first mentioned in 1415. The current building dates partly from the 15th century. In 1642 the church was burned down by Swedish soldiers. At the end of the 17th century the church was rebuilt and expanded. In 1858 the church was expanded again. The frescoes inside the church are by Karl Dankwart . The church building has been a listed building since 1966.
  • Directly at the church is the cemetery with preserved graves from German times.
