The Gmina Świętajno is a rural municipality with around 1100 inhabitants in the Powiat Olecki of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . It has about 3900 inhabitants and its seat is the village of the same name ( German Schwentainen ) with about 1100 inhabitants.

geography

The community is located in the southwest of the powiat. It has an area of ​​almost 215 km², 55 percent of which is used for agriculture and 25 percent for forestry.

Neighbors are olecko county, the county town Olecko (Oletzko / Marggrabowa / Treuburg) and the rural community kowale oleckie (Kowahlen) and Powiat Ełcki rural communities Elk (Elk) and Stare Juchy (Alt Jucha ') and in giżycko county (Lötzen) rural communities Kruklanki (Kruglanken) and Wydminy (Widminnen) .

Before 1945 there were two railway lines in the municipality:

In today's municipality there were two Protestant parish churches until 1945 , the churches of Czychen and Schwentainen . Both belonged to the Oletzko / Treuburg church district in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union .

The voivodeship road DW 655 connects the municipality with the powiat Giżycki and Olecki with the powiat Suwalski in the Podlaskie Voivodeship . Side roads and country lanes connect the places of the community with each other.

Gdansk is the next major international airport. - There is no rail connection in the community.

Personalities

  • The pastor August Ballnus (1807–1871) was a social benefactor in Cichy, where he also died.
