Gottfried Friedrich Wilhelm von Katte (born October 12, 1789 in Zollchow , † March 5, 1866 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Gottfried was a son of the Prussian major Auguste Friedrich Levin von Katte (1743-1826) and his wife Anna Elisabeth Fürchtegott, born von Arnstedt (1749-1802) from the Brumby family. The lieutenant colonel Friedrich von Katte (1770-1836) was his brother.

Military career

Katte joined on 12 February 1801 Junker in the hussar regiment "Schultz" the Prussian army and became the end of April 1803 Cornet . In the Fourth Coalition War he was wounded in the battle near Criewitz and after the Battle of Lübeck made inactive by Ratekau's surrender .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Katte was re-employed on January 1, 1808 with a patent from November 22, 1807 as a second lieutenant in the Brandenburg Hussar Regiment . On June 20, 1813, he was then aggregated as a first lieutenant in the Light Guard Cavalry Regiment and was assigned to June 21, 1813. During the Wars of Liberation , he acquired the Iron Cross II. Class on a foray to Coburg and the Cross I. Class in the battle near Zwickau . Katte was also at Zillnitz, Lasdorf and Chalons, where he received the Russian saber of honor for bravery . He also fought at Großgörschen , Brienne , Arcis-sur-Aube and Paris , where he received the Order of St. Vladimir IV class with a ribbon.

At the end of April 1814, Katte rose to the rank of staff assistant master and was transferred to the Guard Hussar Regiment on February 21, 1815 . There he was promoted to Rittmeister and squadron chief on June 8, 1815 . As a major and regular staff officer, he was employed in the 6th Hussar Regiment from the end of March 1825 . On October 9, 1833, Katte was initially assigned to lead the 2nd Uhlan Regiment and on March 30, 1834 he was appointed regiment commander. With the promotion to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1836, he was given command of the Guard Dragoons Regiment . In this position, promoted to colonel on March 30, 1838 with a patent from April 10, 1848 , Katte was awarded the Order of St. Anne II. Class with diamonds in June 1838 . In mid-September 1843 he received the Order of St. John and at the end of September 1843 also the Order of St. Vladimir III. Class. In the same year he was appointed commander of the 7th Cavalry Brigade on November 2, 1843 and promoted to major general on March 30, 1844 . On May 2, 1849 he became leader of the cavalry brigade in the Mobilien Division near Halle. On May 30, 1850 he received the Commander's Cross 1st Class of the House Order of the Golden Lion . During the constitutional conflict in Hesse in 1850, he led the avant-garde in Hesse and also took part in the battle near Bronzell on November 8, 1850 .

On the occasion of his 50th service anniversary on February 25, 1851, he received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. On March 4, 1852 he was put up for disposal with the character of lieutenant general with a pension . He died on March 5, 1866 in Berlin and was buried on March 9, 1866 in the Invalidenfriedhof . There are memorial plaques for him and his brother in the village church of Zollchow.

On June 16, 1816, Katte married Charlotte Wilhelmine Leopoldine von der Hagen (1797–1872) from the Rhinow family in Zollchow . She was buried on May 10, 1872 in the Invalidenfriedhof. The couple had a daughter who died young and their son Gottfried Hugo Theodor (* 1820).
