Gottlob Benedikt von Schirach (born as Gottlob Benedikt Schirach , also Gottlob Benedict Schirach ; born June 13, 1743 in Tiefenfurth near Lauban , Upper Lusatia ; † December 7, 1804 in Altona / Holstein ) was a German historian, Danish legation councilor and publicist.

He was born in 1743 under the name Gottlob Benedikt Schirach as the son of the Sorbian theologian Christian Gottlob Schirach .

After studying history and philology at the University of Leipzig , he became a private lecturer at the University of Halle in 1764 , where he made friends with Christian Adolph Klotz . Five years later, in 1769, he became professor of philosophy at the University of Helmstedt . He published numerous books that made him an important writer (in his day).
