Window of the Entombment of Jesus in Chevaigné

The Entombment of Jesus window in the Catholic parish church of St-Pierre in Chevaigné , a French parish in the Ille-et-Vilaine department in the Brittany region , was created in 1550. The leaded glass window was added to the list of architectural monuments in France in 1906 as Monument historique .

The central window in the choir comes from an unknown workshop. It represents the burial of Jesus . Mary , John and Joseph of Arimathea are gathered around the body of Jesus . According to the report of the New Testament , after Jesus' crucifixion, Joseph asked the Roman governor Pontius Pilate for the body of Jesus to be placed in his rock tomb, which was actually intended for himself ( Mt 27.57-60  EU ; Mk 15.43-46  EU ; Lk 23.50–54  EU ; Joh 19.38–42  EU ).

The window was donated by François Thierry, landlord of Boisorcan and La Rivaudière, and his wife Françoise du Puy du Fou. They are shown kneeling to the left and right of the main scene with their name cartridges. In the tracery are combined coat of arms of the founding family to see.

The window was restored by Atelier Lecomte et Colin in Rennes in 1883 and by Auguste Alleaume (1854–1940) around 1910/15 .
