history
In 1464 the area came under the rule of Zurich. It was not until 1711 that the villages were united to form the parish of Lindau, from which the political community later emerged. In 1861 Michael Maggi bought the hammer mill in Kemptthal, his son Julius Maggi founded the Maggi factory here in 1869 . In 2002, Nestlé sold the Maggi site in Kemptthal, along with its flavor production, to Givaudan . Shortly afterwards, the soup and bouillon production was moved to Singen .
Since 2018 the former Maggi area has been marketed as “The Valley”. A total of around 1500 additional jobs are to be created. In addition to Givaudan, today u. a. the Axa , the Kantonsspital Winterthur and on meat substitutes specialized ETH start-up Plantet rented on the site.
