history
On February 7th, 1131 armies in a document from King Lothar III. first mentioned in a document. Presumably the place originated in an earlier settlement period before the 6th century. Remains of a Thies , that is, a possibly pre-medieval meeting place, were found in the center of today's Great Army.
Large armies belonged to the estate of the Wohldenberg counts . These later transferred parts of the area to other monasteries, such as Wöltingerode , Derneburg , Riechenberg or St. Michael . In 1293 the Hildesheim bishop also received goods in large armies.
A noble family, which was subordinate to the Counts of Wohldenberg and the Hildesheim bishop and whose possessions were enfeoffed in Groß Heere and Henneckenrode , existed in the village from at least the middle of the 12th century until 1567. In 1578 the estate near the church fell to the Saldern family , and later in 1644 to a Hildesheim merchant family. In 1817 locals bought the property and demolished all other buildings except for the manor house that is still preserved today. In the meantime, there was a cigar factory in the manor house.
Until 1523, Groß Heere belonged to the Hildesheim Monastery. In the course of the collegiate feud from 1519 to 1523, the village came to the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel that year before it came back to Hildesheim in 1643.
Groß Heere had had a school since around 1650, and a new schoolhouse was built in 1886. On July 31, 1972, the primary school was closed. The kindergarten has been located in the building since 1976. Until the beginning of the 18th century, the younger students from Klein Heere were also taught in this school. This was true for older students until 1815.
Due to the development of several residential areas, Groß Heere now forms a joint closed village together with Klein Heere, which, for historical reasons, has two town centers as well as two churches and cemeteries.
church
In 1276 a pastor was first mentioned in Groß Heere. Since the Reformation there has been a permanent pastor for the village who also looked after the church in Klein Heere. While the tower of today's church dates from the Middle Ages, the nave was not built until 1839, replacing the one built in 1785. The organ dates from 1842.
