Groß Ziescht is a district of the town of Baruth / Mark in the Teltow-Fläming district in Brandenburg .

The village of Groß Ziescht is about 50 kilometers from the southern border of the city of Berlin and about seven kilometers south of Baruth on the northern foothills of the Niedere Fläming . Groß Ziescht is 145.4  m above sea level. NN the highest district of Baruth. Neighboring towns of Groß Ziescht and also districts of Baruth are (clockwise, starting from the east) Merzdorf , Kemlitz and Klasdorf as well as Mahlsdorf (district of the municipality of Golßen ), Sellendorf (district of the municipality of Steinreich ) and Damsdorf (district of the municipality of Steinreich). Groß Ziescht is located on state road 712 between Paplitz and Görsdorf (part of the municipality of Dahmetal ), which runs in a north-south direction .

history

The lenticular village was first mentioned in the Magdeburg parchment deed in 1444 as Tzist . The name is said to be of Wendish origin and derived from the word cesta , which means something like village at the forest thicket or just forest village . Groß Ziescht and Kemlitz belonged to the Baruther rule before 1444 , to the Kingdom of Saxony until 1815 and then to Prussia .

On December 31, 1997, Groß Ziescht was incorporated into the city of Baruth together with Horstwalde , Mückendorf and Radeland .

Buildings and special features

Groß Ziescht has five ponds on the spacious green . The village church Groß Ziescht, built entirely of field stones, is located between the largest and one smaller pond . It was built between 1200 and 1230; A late medieval tower is located above the western part. In this church, the first church and school visitation took place in 1529 from Wittenberg with the participation of Martin Luther .

There are particularly numerous boulders to be found on the Groß Zieschter ridge .
