Paplitz [ ˈpɑˑpˌlɪt͡s ] is a district of the town of Baruth / Mark in the Teltow-Fläming district in Brandenburg , Germany.

location

Paplitz is located around 40 kilometers from the southern border of the city of Berlin and around three kilometers west of neighboring Baruth, embedded in the northern slopes of the Niedere Fläming and in the Flemmingwiesen , a lowland landscape of the Baruther glacial valley . Other neighboring towns and districts of Baruth are (clockwise, starting from the south) Groß Ziescht , Merzdorf , Schöbendorf , Horstwalde and Mückendorf . Paplitz is located on the L73 state road between Luckenwalde and Baruth, which runs in an east-west direction, and on the L712 state road that branches off to the south within Paplitz.

Paplitz consists of the upper and northern lower village , laid out as a circular structure , which are both connected by a dam surrounded by old oaks. The round is heavily shaped and hardly recognizable as such.

history

Paplitz is first mentioned in 1363 in an archaeological copy as Popelicz . This name is said to come from Sorbian and mean poplar grove . Sorbian preaching is said to have been used in the church until the 18th century.

In the 12th century, the marshy Baruther glacial valley is said to have only been passable in two places in the region, near Baruth and Paplitz. Defense systems are said to have been built at these strategically important points in order to control the crossings and cover them in the event of enemy attacks. About 300–400 m northwest of Paplitz is the so-called Schlepkenberg , Schleßgenberg or Schlößchenberg , a small elevation at the foothills of the Langer Horst dune (also known as the Lange Horst Mountains ). This is where the Papelitz house , a castle-like country residence of the von Schlieben family who ruled Baruth between the 13th century and 1582, is said to have been. Today there are no more traces of the building visible. The fortified church in Paplitz, built of field stones, with the bell tower standing to one side , which was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and later rebuilt, is said to stand on the ruins of an old fortification.

The population of Paplitz and the surrounding areas suffered from the outbreak of the plague in around 1582 and 1631. In addition, Paplitz was often the victim of looting and devastation by soldiers from various armies passing through or what was left of them.

Also at Whitsun 1636, during the Thirty Years War, Swedish soldiers invaded Paplitz. The population could hide with their household items and cattle on the Langer Horst dune in the nearby moor. The pastor Johannes Hanisius, who was holed up in the village church, died under the torture of the looting soldiers because he steadfastly refused to reveal the hiding place of the Paplitzer. A wooden cross with a corresponding inscription, which is today behind the altar in the Paplitz village church, reminds of this incident.

Due to iron deposits, more precisely the finding of lawn iron stone , a hammer mill is said to have operated near Paplitz from 1768 to 1778 , the Oberhammer (later the Brückmühle ), whose operation is said to have been terminated in the course of industrialization due to unprofitability.

In 1884 and 1886, devastating major fires destroyed some of the village's farmhouses, which were then thatched with thatch.

On December 31, 2001 Paplitz was incorporated into the city of Baruth together with Dornswalde , Klasdorf , Petkus and Schöbendorf.

politics

The mayor of Paplitz is Marlies Patzer, who has held office as mayor and mayor since 1992.

  • Centrally located in the village is probably in the 13th / 14th. The Protestant village church in Paplitz was built in the 18th century and is a late medieval stone church with a baroque porch, which was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and rebuilt around 1660 to 1670. The bell tower is a bit away from the church.
  • There is a war memorial for those who died in the First and Second World Wars on the church grounds .
  • There is also a military cemetery on the church grounds , where more than 75 German soldiers who died at the end of the Second World War in Paplitz and in the vicinity of the village were buried.
  • On the grounds of the farm workers' museum is the historic farm workers' yard with farm workers' house and the barn, which was renovated in 2011.
  • South of the museum on the road to Kemlitz is the so-called Russen-Acht . This is a tower that served the tank units of the Red Army as a point of reference: Panzerstraße 8 connected Wünsdorf with Jüterbog and crossed the Paplitz district. Tanks that were loaded at the train station in Baruth crossed the village. A bypass road was built in 1978 under pressure from the population of Paplitz. During a work assignment by the community, young people from Paplitz derusted the tower, repaired it and painted it in April 1999. A restoration took place in 2008.
  • The Luisen stone on Eichengrund is intended to commemorate Queen Luise's stay in Paplitz. The queen, who is passing through, is said to have stayed overnight in the now defunct windmill because of a broken wagon wheel.
