Gustav Friedrich Wilhelm von Henning auf Schönhoff (born August 22, 1830 in Gotha ; † January 1, 1905 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Gustav was the eldest son of the district president of the same name, Gustav von Henning auf Schönhoff (1798–1880) and his wife Thekla, née von Wurmb (1801–1875).

Military career

After attending a private school and high school in his hometown Henning joined on 1 March 1848 as a hunter in the 4th Fighter Division of the Prussian army one. He took part in the suppression of the revolutionary unrest in Erfurt and was transferred to the 3rd Jäger Battalion in Lübben at the beginning of December 1849 and promoted to Second Lieutenant . From July 1852 to May 1859 he was a battalion adjutant, in the meantime rose to prime lieutenant in November 1857 and advanced to captain and company commander in mid-May 1861 . In this capacity, Henning led the 3rd Company in the war against Denmark in 1864 in the battle near Wielhoi, Rackebüll and Büffelkoppel, the storm on the Düppeler Schanzen as well as in the transition to Alsen . For his work he received the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords.

Shortly after the start of the German War , Henning and his company transferred to the newly formed Jäger Battalion No. 9 on June 24, 1866 . He took part in the battle of Münchengrätz and in the Main Army in the battles near Hundheim , Uettingen and Roßbrunn and the bombardment of Würzburg . In the war against France , Henning led his company in the battles at Colombey and Gravelotte as well as in the siege of Metz . While being promoted to major , he was given command of the 2nd Reserve Jäger Battalion on October 20, 1870, which was used to fight Franc tireurs between Metz and Paris .

Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class was after Henning Truce end of March 1871 as commander of the First Battalion in the fifth Brandenburg Infantry Regiment. 48 is added. He was promoted to colonel by the middle of September 1880 , a few days later he was initially charged with commanding the Schleswig Infantry Regiment No. 84 under position à la suite and was appointed regimental commander on March 12, 1881. Henning married Emmy von Beerfelde (1838–1891) on April 9, 1863 in Lübben . The daughter Margarethe (1867-1884) and the later German Lieutenant General Ulrich von Henning auf Schönhoff (1873-1942) emerged from the marriage.
