Guti (born October 31, 1976 in Torrejón de Ardoz ; real name José María Gutiérrez Hernández ) is a former Spanish soccer player and current coach . He played for Real Madrid between 1995 and 2010 and won the Champions League three times with the club, along with five championships and numerous other national titles . Guti was also a Spanish international , but did not take part in any world or European championships . He is currently the head coach of the UD Almería .

Career

society

Guti went through all of Real Madrid's junior teams and finally moved in the 1995/96 season from the B-team to the professional squad of the Madrilenians. In his first season for Los Blancos , he made nine appearances in the Primera División . He made his debut on December 2, 1995, the 15th matchday, against Sevilla FC : The then Real coach Jorge Valdano changed Guti in the 60th minute for Amavisca . The midfielder then had to wait three months for his next appearance. Under new coach Arsenio Iglesias he came from the 22nd to the 32nd game day to eight missions. He scored his first professional goal in a 3-0 away win against Real Valladolid .

In the next two seasons he had repeated missions and also played in an international competition for the first time. In the championship year 1996/97, his first of five Spanish championship successes, he made 17 league appearances. In the following season, the club won the Champions League and the World Cup . Guti was not used in either of the two international finals.

In 1998/99 he made the final breakthrough. When Real reached the final of the Champions League again in 1999/00 , Guti was not part of the game when his team beat Valencia 3-0. Two years later, in Real Madrid's third Champions League win, Guti was on the bench. Thus Guti has won the UEFA Champions League three times during his time at Real without playing a final. On August 30, 2002 he was in the starting line-up of the team that beat Feyenoord Rotterdam 3-1 in the UEFA Super Cup game , where he scored one goal. It was Guti's first international final victory. On December 3, 2002 he was substituted on in the game for the World Cup against Club Olimpia in the 82nd minute for Ronaldo ; his team won 2-0.

Two years earlier, he had been on the field for the full 90 minutes when it went to the Boca Juniors from Argentina in the World Cup final . At that time, however, Real lost 2-1.

After Zinedine Zidane announced his resignation in the summer of 2006, Guti moved into the club's creative department for the new season. In this role he helped the team to the 30th championship title in the club's history.

At the beginning of the 2009/10 season , Kaká came to Madrid and initially ousted Guti from his place. In the past few years, players like Luis Figo , Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham and Robinho had come to Madrid against whom the midfielder had to prove himself again and again. Due to a falling out with coach Manuel Pellegrini and minor injuries, he came to only a few missions during this year. It was only when Kaká was out due to injuries that Guti came back more often. At the end of the season, the offensive player announced his departure from Real Madrid. In a total of 541 games for Madrid, he had scored 77 goals.

At the beginning of the 2010/11 season he played for the Turkish club Beşiktaş Istanbul , which his former Real coach Bernd Schuster coached. Guti signed a two-year contract worth 2.7 million euros a year. Guti scored his first goal for Beşiktaş in a 4-0 win in the UEFA Europa League play-off second leg against HJK Helsinki. At the beginning of December 2010, after his team's 1-0 victory over Bursaspor, he was involved in an accident and stopped by the police with a blood alcohol content of 2.71 ‰. As a result, he threatened to lose his driver's license for a long time. Guti's contract was prematurely terminated in mid-November 2011.

After contract negotiations with interested clubs failed at the beginning of the 2012/13 season, Guti ended his active career on July 12, 2012. He returned to Real Madrid in August 2013 as a youth coach.

National team

Guti made 13 appearances (3 goals) in the Spanish national team . He made his debut on May 5, 1999 when he came on as a substitute in the friendly against Croatia . In the following years it was used sporadically. He scored his first international goal on October 12, 2002 in the qualifier for the 2004 European Championship against Northern Ireland , in which he was also in the starting line-up of the Selección for the first time . He played his last game for the national team on February 9, 2005 against San Marino .
