The Langenhagen grammar school is the grammar school of the city of Langenhagen .
location
The Langenhagen grammar school is located in a school complex with the IGS Langenhagen center opposite the town hall and the city center Langenhagen . The school also has a branch in the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule Langenhagen , in which grades 5 and 6 are taught.
history
The grammar school was founded in 1966 with four fifth and three sixth grades. The sixth graders previously attended classes in Hanover and Großburgwedel . However, at the time there was no building of its own. The students were initially outsourced to other schools in Langenhagen. Only two years later, with the A and C tracts, separate prefabricated buildings were erected. Over the years the school has been expanded to include the other wings B, D, E, F, G, H, P, S and T, of which wings B to F and S now almost entirely belong to the IGS. The P, S and T wings are sports halls . In 1973 the first students were able to graduate from the Langenhagen grammar school.
Because of the large number of students, the grammar school was expanded in 1977 to include a second seat at the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule. In 1981 the orientation level was introduced and the high school from the 7th grade was again only on Konrad-Adenauer-Straße. Since the end of the orientation stage in 2004, the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule has again served as a branch for the 5th and 6th grades of the grammar school.
Since 2013, with the completion of the M cafeteria, the Langenhagen grammar school has served as an all-day school .
In 2013, the A-wing was badly damaged during Hurricane Xaver when part of the roof was torn off.
In July 2015 it became known that fire protection had never been guaranteed in any way since the school was built, which relates to wings A, C and H, which, as the largest wings, take up large parts of the school complex. According to this, the spread of smoke through ceilings and walls should not have been excluded due to construction errors. Due to the acute danger, classes in the 73 classrooms affected were banned and a fire watch was held until the summer holidays. Since then, it has been forbidden to enter floors 2 and 3; the floors below can still be used as escape stairs thanks to scaffolding. Class 7 has been taught in the main building since summer 2018, and classes 8–12 have been taught in school containers since then .
In July 2016, plans for a new building were published. On September 29, 2016, the decision was made to build the new building near the Neue Bult . The groundbreaking ceremony took place in May 2020 . The construction work should take two years.
