The Höchstadter EC is a sports club from Höchstadt an der Aisch with teams in ice hockey as well as inline skate hockey and - since 2010 - basketball

The exact name of the club is Höchstadter Eishockey Club 93 eV

history

Ice hockey already existed in Höchstadt under the umbrella of the ESC Höchstadt in the 70s and 80s, but it was more of a popular sport. A pure ice hockey club was founded in 1993 in order to make ice hockey more public and to be more ambitious in terms of sport. In 2010 the basketball department moved from TSV Höchstadt to Höchstadter EC.

ice Hockey

The ice hockey team of Höchstadter EC with the surname Alligators managed in the 1993/94 season as champions of the District League North to rise to the state league. Peppered with formerly higher-class players, such as cult striker Stan Mikulenka, Jan Cizek or Roman Zilka, the gate to the Bayern League was knocked several times. However, they just failed at EA Kempten and the following year at ESV Bayreuth. In 1997 they qualified for the championship round for promotion to the Bayern League. The ice rink on Kieferndorfer Weg was bursting at the seams against the EHC Bad Aibling and the starting squad of ESC Munich , and additional grandstands were even built. In the 90s, over 1000 spectators regularly made the pilgrimage to the HEC. The product ambitious ice hockey was extremely well received. In terms of sport, the promotion to the Bayern League with 3rd place behind Munich and Bad Aibling was missed, but the Bayernkrug could be won in the finals against Buchloe. As a successor, you were allowed to participate in the Bayern League in the 1997/1998 season.

The Alligators quickly established themselves as a top team here. In the first Bayern league game, DEC Inzell-Frillensee was defeated 14-0. Relegation was secured early on by reaching the championship round.

In the 1998/99 season they played for a long time for promotion to the regional league, but failed at EA Kempten and EHC Memmingen. In the following season, the HEC fought a bitter three-way battle for promotion with arch rivals ERV Schweinfurt and the amateur team of Augsburger EV. Due to a defeat in Schweinfurt on the last match day, the promotion was missed again. In the summer of 2000, strengths were pooled again and a new attempt was made. The contract with top scorer Markus Schwindl was extended and top goalie Siegfried Bärnreuther came to Aisch from the newly promoted Schweinfurt. Coach Viktor Lukes' team played a strong season and was able to win the Bavarian championship title. In the promotion round to the regional league you met the Bavarian runner-up Sonthofen, the master of the Baden-Württemberg League, the Stuttgart Wizards and the Sachsenliga representative from Halle. In the first game the Halleers were dealt with 32-3. Due to an unnecessary home defeat against Stuttgart, the chances of promotion dwindled, especially since Goalie Bärnreuther was injured. In the second leg Coach Lukes was in goal and with a 5-2 away win the sensation was achieved. With final victories against Sonthofen and Halle, the ascent was actually achieved.

As a result of the promotion to the Regionalliga Süd run by the DEB , some renovation work was carried out in the stadium. Instead of the safety fence, a plexiglass band was installed, and a year later a grandstand was installed on the back straight.

In the new league they kept up well and thanks to the goals of newcomer Stanislav Rosa and the strong performance of the Czech goalie Petr Heidinger, they reached 8th place.

In the summer, the previous single-track league was dissolved and increased by teams from the Regionalliga Süd in order to form two regional squadrons. The HEC was thus third class. In these three major league seasons that followed, the alligators were always divided into the unfavorable northern group. One met u. a. on teams from Bremerhaven, Berlin, Hanover or Dresden and had extremely high travel costs as well as high salaries to keep up in this professional league. This was only partially successful, although the class could be held twice. In the 2004/2005 season they were also successful in sport until the turn of the year and celebrated great victories against Leipzig and Dresden. Due to increasing financial problems, they pulled the emergency brake in the new year and parted with the professional players and communicated to the public that they would voluntarily relegate. With a rump troop you rose through the defeats in the playdowns against Miesbach.

In 2005 the HEC was back in the Bavarian League. The budget was significantly reduced compared to the big league, but with Ekrt, Schmidhuber, Sikorski and Kukacka some supports could be kept. Complemented by Jamie McKinley and top goalie Kai Fischer, the Alligators marched through the league and won the Bavarian championship title in the finals against EHC Waldkraiburg.

The league promotion was waived. The level could no longer be maintained in the following years. In the 2007/2008 season, you missed the playoffs for the first time. In 2008/2009 there was a short intermediate high with 3rd place under Martin Ekrt. By the way, between June 2008 and June 2009 the Höchstadter EC was the parent club of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers from the DEL. After missing the playoffs again in the following season, the Alligators were relegated to the state league in 2011 due to defeats against ESV Buchloe.

The absolute lowest point of what had meanwhile been a creeping decline had now been reached, but at the same time meant a turning point. With the engagement of player-coach Daniel Jun from Schönheide, the foundation for better times was laid. The immediate return to the Bavarian League was celebrated as the first success.

It managed to re-establish itself in the Bavarian League in the following years. In 2014 they made it to the semi-finals, in 2015 they only lost in the final against EV Lindau, as well as in 2016 against Waldkraiburg. By increasing the Oberliga Süd in summer 2016, eleven years after relegation, they were back in the third-highest German division.

The team established itself quickly in the new league, only narrowly failing to make it to the championship round. Because of a lot of bad luck with injuries, they failed in the qualifying games at TEV Miesbach and had to relegate to the Bayern League after a year. In the 2017/18 season, the HEC team was immediately promoted back to the top division.
