Haiduan ( Chinese 海端鄉 , Pinyin Hǎiduān Xiang , W.-G. Hai 3 -tuan 1 Hsiang 1 ) is a rural community in Taitung County on Taiwan ( Republic of China ).
Location, geography
With about 880 km², Haiduan is the largest municipality in Taitung County in terms of area. It lies entirely in the area of the Taiwan Central Mountains . The national nature is characterized by mostly narrow valleys with steep mountains that reach a height of over 3000 meters. The climate is tropical, rainy and characterized by the monsoons , but mostly a moderate temperature due to the altitude. The neighboring communities are in the east (from north to south): Chishang , Guanshan , Luye , in the south Yanping (the latter all in Taitung County), and in the west Tauyuan (district of Kaohsiung ) and in the north Zhuoxi in Hualien County .
Residents
About 95 percent of the population are members of the Bunun people . In addition, there are a few members of other Taiwanese indigenous peoples - Paiwan , Puyuma , Atayal , Amis , and others Han Chinese make up less than 5 percent. The languages spoken at home in Haiduan are (2010, multiple answers possible, people over 5 years): 93.8% Mandarin , 72.6% Formosa languages , 6.6% Taiwanese , 0.6% Hakka , 0.8% other.
Administrative structure
Haiduan is divided into 6 villages (村, Cūn ) (names in Bunun language, Chinese transcription and writing): Haitutuan (Haiduan, 海端 村), Guangyuan (廣 原 村), Litu (Lidao, 利稻 村), Bulbul tu Bulaku (Wulu, 霧 鹿 村), Kamcing (Kanding 崁 頂 村), Kanahcian (Jiana, 加 拿 村).

Agriculture
Agricultural products are (with cultivation area) rice (120 ha ), various vegetables (60 ha), millet (15 ha), bitter tea tree ( Camellia oleifera , for the production of camellia oil , 28 ha), pumpkin (20 ha), peaches (20 ha ), Plums (20 ha), persimmons (13 ha), oranges (10 ha), tea (10 ha), jelly figs ( Ficus pumila var. Awkeotsang , 10 ha), corn, adzuki beans and others. Forestry plays a certain role and the rivers are rich in fish (eels, carp fish ).

The main traffic connection is the provincial road 20, which, coming from Chishang, crosses the north of the municipality in a north-westerly direction.
Attractions
The main attractions of Haiduan are, on the one hand, the relatively untouched mountain landscape with its rich fauna, insect and bird life, including the hot springs of Lisong (water temperature 45–65 ° C), and the 210 to 330 meter high, at 3310 meters above sea level Jiaming Lake ( 嘉明 湖 ) at sea level . The Bunun culture can also be seen in Haiduan, for example in the Bunun Culture Museum ( 族 文物 館 於 , officially 海端 鄉 布 農 族 文化館 , " Haiduan Rural Bunun Culture Center" since 2016 ). The bunun culture can be experienced folklorically at various public festivals and artifacts (handicrafts, carvings, weaving) can be purchased.
