Hakkâri ( Aramaic ܗܲܟܵܐܪܝ̣ Hakkārī , Kurdish Colemêrg ) is a Turkish city in southeastern Anatolia . The city is located in a mountainous area around 1850 kilometers east of Istanbul and is the administrative center of the province of the same name . At the same time, it is also the center of the surrounding central district ( Merkez ). Hakkâri is located near the border triangle Turkey-Iraq-Iran.
The Armenians call the city Ilmar , and the Mamluks , who also ruled here, called it Colamerg . The Kurds call it Colemêrg and in Turkish it was formerly called Çölemerik . The name Hakkâri is derived from the Syriac-Aramaic wordܐܰܟ݁ܳܪܳܐ Akkare , which means "farmer".
The central district is located in the western center of the province. It borders Çukurca County in the south and Yüksekova County in the east . In the north the province of Van and in the west the province of Şırnak forms the border. The central district is the only district in the province that does not have a foreign neighbor. In addition to the district and provincial capital, it consists of another Belediye (municipality): Durankaya ( 3,146 inh .). In addition, 36 villages with an average of 465 inhabitants belong to the district. After the election of the officially running candidate was won, the second unofficial candidate became his deputy mayor. But in practice, the mayor and mayor should have equal rights. (Called co-mayor in the media). In Hakkari the unofficial candidate Nurullah Çiftçi was and thus he was named co-mayor after the election. Both co-mayors were arrested in August 2015.
