Craftsmanship!
Craftsmanship! is a television series by Südwestrundfunk (SWR) that has been running since October 2015 and provides insights into skilled trades and craft work, including old and rare jobs.
The series "Handwerkskunst!" was developed by the SWR in Mainz as an alternative to contemporary television. The 45 minute format shows in long, calm shots how a workpiece is created. Right from the start, the format has dispensed with emotional background music; the atmosphere and noises in the craft should work on their own.
“Handwerkskunst!” Aims to awaken an understanding of how much hard work, time and experience a workpiece requires, and how everyday and special things are created whose form and function have been perfected by master craftsmen over centuries. Over the years, "Craftsmanship!" on various media libraries to a successful documentary format of the ARD. Individual episodes were viewed millions of times ("How to build a roof structure", "How to bake a really good bread", "How to bake a wedding cake"), and by 2020 the entire series was viewed over 31 million times.
Since June 2020 there has been a separate YouTube channel for the SWR series Handwerkskunst.
