Hans Ernst Christoph von Werder

Hans Ernst Christoph von Werder (born April 28, 1771 on the Rogäsen manor ; † July 11, 1837 in Glogau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He comes from the Brandenburg noble family von Werder . His parents were the royal Prussian Minister of State Hans Ernst Dietrich von Werder (1740-1800) and his wife Sophie Charlotte von Werder (* April 14, 1744, † October 19, 1775) from the Gaditz family.

Military career

Werder became a pupil of the Joachimsthaler Gymnasium in 1783 . On February 1, 1786 he came as a standard junker in the body carbine regiment . On December 1, 1786 he was transferred to the cuirassier regiment "von Kalckreuth" as a cornet . There he became second lieutenant on March 19, 1792 . During the First Coalition War , Werder took part in the sieges of Longwy, Verdun and Mainz . He was wounded in the latter. He also fought at the Valmy cannonade and the battles near Pirmasens and Kaiserslautern . For the battle near Hochheim Werder was awarded the order Pour le Mérite on January 7, 1793 .

After the war he was transferred to Dragoon Regiment No. 13 on December 16, 1801 and promoted to captain there on June 18, 1803 . Werder fought in the Fourth Coalition War in the defense of Danzig . On November 18, 1807 he was transferred to the Silesian Cuirassier Regiment (No. 1) as the oldest Rittmeister . On April 16, 1808 he became a major there.

During the Wars of Liberation Werder fought in the battles of Großgörschen , Dresden , Bautzen , Kulm , Leipzig , Laon and Paris , where he received the Iron Cross 1st class. He also took part in the battles at Sezanne, Claye , Haynau and the siege of Luxembourg. For Großgörschen he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class on May 19, 1813. At Haynau he took over the regiment after the commander, Major von Briesen, was seriously wounded. In the battle he was able to capture several cannons. For this he was on June 21, 1813 commander of the East Prussian Cuirassier Regiment (No. 3) and on August 11, 1813 promoted to lieutenant colonel. On March 29, 1815 he became commander of the 3rd Cuirassier Regiment (No. 6) and on December 8, 1815, a colonel .

On August 20, 1816, he came to Glogau as commander of the cavalry brigade . On March 30, 1817 he was promoted to major general with a patent on April 2, 1817 and on September 5, 1818 he was appointed commander of the 9th Cavalry Brigade . On January 18, 1823 he received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class for his services. A little later on June 13, 1825, he was put up for disposition as lieutenant general with a pension . On August 30, 1825, he received the service cross . He died in Glogau on July 11, 1837.

Werder married Johanna Marie Friederike Wedde on July 16, 1800 in Stegelitz (* November 20, 1783; † November 5, 1864). The couple had the following children:

King Friedrich Wilhelm III. On September 17, 1837, the War Ministry ordered the widow to pay a pension of 300 thalers. His successor Friedrich Wilhelm IV supported the widow with gifts of money.
