Hans-Hugo Hartmann (born February 8, 1916 in Dortmund ; † February 1991 ) was a German racing driver .

Career

Hans-Hugo Hartmann was the son of a Mercedes-Benz salesman. In 1935 he first drew attention to himself when driving off-road. In the 1939 season he was a junior and reserve driver for the Stuttgart company in the European Grand Prix Championship . His first race for Mercedes was the Eifel race at the end of May 1939, the second start followed in August at the Swiss Grand Prix in Bremgarten , which Hartmann finished seventh in a W 154 .

After the Second World War , Hartmann competed in sports car races . In 1952, together with Adolf Brudes , he set internationally recognized records in the class up to 1.5 l for Borgward on the Linas-Montlhéry race track (including 100 km with an average of 215.5 km / h). He also competed with Brudes in the 1953 Le Mans 24-hour race and the 1954 1000 km race in Buenos Aires , but failed in each case. At the Carrera Panamericana 1953 , Hartmann did not make it into the ranking on Borgward either. At the end of the last stage he had led the small sports car class by more than an hour and a half, but fell behind due to a defect, exceeded the time limit by 7 seconds and was disqualified. In view of this bad luck, Carl FW Borgward presented his driver with a silver plate in recognition of his performance.

Hartmann had a serious accident in a race in the framework program for the 1954 German Grand Prix and ended his career as a driver. Then he was sports director at Borgward. In 1959 he moved to Herdecke , ran three car dealerships in Dortmund and ran a driving school . In 1960 Hartmann returned actively to motorsport, drove the Monte Carlo Rally with Günter Isenbügel and won the series touring car class on Borgward Isabella .
