Hein Riess , also Hein Riess , (born September 11, 1913 in Hamburg ; † September 1993 there ) was a German actor and Hamburg folk singer.

Riess came from Hamburg-Eilbek , from Eilenau; he was originally a seaman . At the age of 13 he had already been hired as a cabin boy on a ship. He played some roles in some international movies in the 1960s . He was also seen in several television productions in Germany . He embodied the role model of the Hanseatic comedian . The film database IMDb lists the musical film Heimweh nach St. Pauli (1963) as its first film appearance . Riess played there, at the side of Freddy Quinn , the sailor Kuddel. In the 1960s, Rüdel-Verlag published autograph cards and photo cards by Hein Riess. In addition to Freddy Quinn, he also played in the stage version of the musical Heimweh nach St. Pauli by Lotar Olias from the 1966/1967 season at the Hamburg Operettenhaus ; there he took on the role of Jan. This production was also recorded for television and broadcast in April 1967 on ZDF . In 1971 he appeared on stage in the Hamburg St. Pauli Theater in the play Krach im Hinterhaus (with Christa Siems as a partner).

Riess was also active as a pop singer . He was mainly active as a singer of shanties . He resigned in the 1950s a. a. in the well-known Astoria Varieté in Bremen . He was in hit performances a. a. announced as the "singing mate " or the "popular singer from the Waterkant ". In 1960 he released his single No woman is as beautiful as freedom . In 1963, Polydor released his single with the titles The story of the "pale Mary" and Also a sailor gives you roses . Recordings of the songs Rolling Home and One Time to Bombay were also released on other LPs in the form of compilations.

Riess achieved national fame primarily through the portrayal of Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring in the war film Battle of Britain (1969). The former Air Force officer and fighter pilot Adolf Galland , who had known Göring himself and who worked as a technical advisor on the film, was enthusiastic about Riess' portrayal; Riess corresponds exactly in habit and even in voice to Hermann Göring. In contemporary film reviews, however, the distortion of the character Hermanns Göring in the film was also criticized; Riess has "only corpulence" in common with him.

He also had two small episode roles in the ARD crime series Großstadtrevier in 1989 and 1991 .

Riess died shortly before his 80th birthday in Eilbeker Hospital of heart failure .
