Heinrich Adolph von Kurssel (born May 15, 1693 in Wele , † September 26, 1758 in Frankfurt ) was a Prussian major general and head of the regiment .

Life

origin

Heinrich Adolph came from the German-Baltic Kursell family , a Livonian family. He was the son of the Swedish lieutenant colonel Christoph Heinrich von Kursell and his wife Anna Gertrud, née von Tiesenhausen .

Military career

In 1710 Kurssel went into Prussian service and took part in the Pomeranian campaign of 1715/1716 with the "Wartensleben" infantry regiment . He rose to Ensign on January 16, 1716 , on September 26, 1718 to Second Lieutenant and on May 21, 1721 to Prime Lieutenant . In 1734 he was a staff captain on advertising . Kurssel was so successful that he received the Order De la Générosité . Under Frederick II he received the Pour le Mérite for it. On July 15, 1737 he became a major and in 1742 a lieutenant colonel. During the Second Silesian War he was promoted to colonel on January 27, 1745 and then fought in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg . In 1749 he became the commander of the von Kalsow infantry regiment . He became major general on September 11, 1753, and in 1755 he was promoted to chief of the Kurssel on foot regiment named after him . He was wounded in the battle of Prague . After his recovery, Kurssel commanded the defense of Glogau and was in the siege of Schweidnitz in 1758. On April 20, he received the supreme command of the army in Silesia in Landshut. In the battle of Zorndorf on August 25, Kurssel commanded a brigade , was wounded and died a little later in Frankfurt (Oder).

family

Kurssel was married twice. First he married Charlotte Sophie von Eller († April 15, 1735), widowed von Heyden , on January 6, 1729 . After her death, on September 25, 1736, he married Eleonore Luise von Bardeleben (* May 23, 1710) from the Brödelwitz family. She was the daughter of Hans Christoph von Bardeleben . Kurssel founded the Silesian branch of his family and had the following children:
