Heinrich von Bünau (General, 1778)

Heinrich von Bünau (born November 27, 1778 on carpets ; † September 26, 1834 in Jülich ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the Jülich Fortress .

Life

He was the son of Heinrich von Bünau (born March 30, 1718, † 1782) and his wife Juliane Christiane, nee Freiin von Feilitzsch . His father was a master of carpets, a ducal Saxon-Weimar major and commander of the Garde du Corps .

Military career

Bünau visited the cadet house in Dresden from March 1, 1790 and on February 16, 1796 was transferred as a non-commissioned officer to the “Elector” infantry regiment of the Saxon Army . He took part in the First Coalition War in 1796/97 and fought near Wetzlar , Kirn , Pforzheim and Neuburg . On September 12, 1798 he was transferred as an ensign to the infantry regiment "von Saenger" , where Bünau was promoted to Sourleutnant on August 21, 1805 . In the fourth coalition war he was wounded in the battle of Jena and fought in the battle near Mittelpöllnitz . After the Treaty of Tilsit , Bünau was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on August 4, 1808 . During the Fifth Coalition War he fought on the French side near Linz , Krems and Stampfen . For his work in the Battle of Wagram , Bünau was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Heinrich .

On October 7, 1809 he joined the 2nd Light Infantry Regiment as a captain and one year later he became an adjutant to Prince Friedrich August of Saxony. Bünau took part in Napoleon's Russian campaign in 1812 , fought near Podobna , Kosnie and Wolkowysk and was wounded near Biala. He was one of the few returnees and was taken over as a captain in the "Prince Friedrich August" regiment on February 4, 1813, but was transferred to the hussar regiment as a major on June 22, 1813 . On October 16, 1813 Bünau changed to the Prussians as commander of a grenadier regiment in the Battle of Leipzig and was then employed on May 17, 1814 with a patent from August 19, 1813 in the 19th Infantry Regiment . On July 26, 1813, he was transferred to the 27th Infantry Regiment .

During the Wars of Liberation , Bünau fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Paris and Ligny . He was wounded in the battle near Kalisch, but fought at Wittstock, Oudenaarde and Courtray. For Belle Alliance he was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of Saint Anne II. Class.

Bünau rose to lieutenant colonel on October 15, 1815, and was commissioned to lead his regiment on July 22, 1817. On April 25, 1818, he was appointed regimental commander. In this capacity he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1822 , and Bünau was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III on January 16, 1824 . Class. On March 30, 1831 he came to the 15th Landwehr Brigade as commander, and on March 30, 1833 he was promoted to major general. A year later, because of his deteriorating health, he was appointed commandant of the Jülich Fortress. He died there on September 26, 1834.

In 1833, General Borstell wrote in his assessment: “Moral, zealous and punctual, completely reliable and suitable for his position, a lot of security of service and business circumspection, an exemplary superior in general. His health is changeable and not reliable for field service. However, its elimination would be a real loss to the Most High Service. Highly recommended."

Bünau married on July 15, 1810 on Kesselshain with Borna Henriette von Altrock (born September 30, 1790, † June 21, 1878). The couple had several children:

The king promised the widow to support the children up to the age of 17. From 1840 the widow also received an annual pension of 200 thalers.
